I think I just saw this quote in the movie 'Forks over Knives'. I also bought the cookbook. Woohoo. I'm new here so excuse me for the thread rebirth.

Here is one of my favorite quotes, it's not directly about veganism, but it reflects why I am vegan exactly. By Leo Tolstoy.
"Every living thing is afraid of suffering, is afraid of death". This is really all I need to know.

You might like this one too, MM. It is the opening lines from the chapter titled 'Violence' in the Dhammapada ..

All beings tremble before violence.
All fear death.
All love life.
See yourself in others.
Then whom can you hurt?
What harm can you do?
He who seeks happiness
By hurting those who seek happiness
Will never find happiness.
For your brother is like you.
He wants to be happy.
Never harm him
And when you leave this life
You too will find happiness.
Never speak harsh words
For they will rebound upon you.
Angry words hurt
And the hurt rebounds.
Like a broken gong
Be still, and silent.
Know the stillness of freedom

New? Welcome to the forum Kam :)

Unfortunately the 'glass walls' idea is a bit of a duffer, I'm afraid.

Slaughterhouses have glass walls to those work in them. If the quote were not a duff'un then everyone who worked inside a slaughter house would be a vegetarian.

*nods* yep. Put up curtains and reassure themselves that the meat they just consumed came from a more reputable, forgiving source than *that* slaughterhouse.

Thanks to By M. Butterflies Katz at www.gentleworld.org (http://www.gentleworld.org) for collecting (http://www.gentleworld.org/VEGAN/you_are_not_alone.htm) these and other quotes.

In short - if you plan to go vegan and feel alone about doing it, remember that you are in relatively good company.

We have more quotes here (http://www.veganforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=291).

Hats Off for the great quotes. Thanks Korn for the inspiring and motivating thoughts on vegetarian food.

Isaac Bashevis Singer (http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/14444.Isaac_Bashevis_Singer) quotes:

“I did not become a vegetarian for my health, I did it for the health of the chickens.”

“People often say that humans have always eaten animals, as if this is a justification for continuing the practice. According to this logic, we should not try to prevent people from murdering other people, since this has also been done since the earliest of times.”

“To be a vegetarian is to disagree - to disagree with the course of things today... starvation, cruelty - we must make a statement against these things. Vegetarianism is my statement. And I think it's a strong one.”

“In their behavior toward creatures, all men are Nazis. Human beings see oppression vividly when they're the victims. Otherwise they victimize blindly and without a thought.”

“What do they know-all these scholars, all these philosophers, all the leaders of the world - about such as you? They have convinced themselves that man, the worst transgressor of all the species, is the crown of creation. All other creatures were created merely to provide him with food, pelts, to be tormented, exterminated. In relation to them, all people are Nazis; for the animals it is an eternal Treblinka.”
