1 lb. Penne pasta
1/2 stick butter
3 cloves garlic, chopped
6 to 7 scallions, chopped
2 cans tomato sauce (15 oz. total)
1/3 c. vodka
1/4 c. soy cream (alpro works well)
Basil, oregano and pepper to taste

Saute chopped garlic and scallions over low flame with butter. Add tomato sauce, vodka and spices. Let come to boil and simmer 45 minutes. Add heavy cream; cook 10 minutes. Put water up for pasta.

Sounds good. But what is 1/2 stick butter?

about 4 tablespoons =)

So one stick = 8 tablespoons?

I've never heard that terminology before. But then, I did have my ears severed in a freak gardening accident at the age of three.

Yeah, sometimes you can buy butter in stick form instead of a block.

According to a site I just found, a stick of butter weighs 4oz.

I much prefer working in weight than working in volume.

that would be right...a stick is 1/4 of a block, and a block is one pound. we don't generally have blocks here, we have 4 individally wrapped sticks that are in a box making them look like a block (2 on top of 2).

So, a stick is 1/4 lb, however butter is obvioiusly not vegan and the vegan stuff comes in shorter sticks that are definately smaller but i suppose could weigh the same amount...lol - just to confuse the situation!
