There is one place in Melbourne if you want some serious fun vegan food - Pronto Brontos. Robert (my omnivore boyfriend) and I went there for dinner tonight and now we are unable to move LOL :D . We each had:
- a burger
- fries
- salad
- 1/2 mini chocolate mud cake
- 1/2 a blueberry muffin
- 2 chocolate chip cookies
I have not had food like that since being vegan. It was truly amazing. The choc cake and cookies were unbelievable! I have been DYING for cookies for the whole time I have been vegan and now my prayers have been answered. I put in a request for the making of white chocolate cookies...mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! *drools eventhough still disgustingly full!
Roxy, if there is any reason to come to Melbourne, this is it!

So how do you feel today after stuffing yourselves with all that food made with fat and sugar (apart from the salad)? Just watch out Banana, now that you've found Pronto Brontos, that you don't put on too much weight! :)

LOL Eve!!!! I shared all that stuff with my boyfriend (hence the 1/2 stuff) and I was so sick in the middle of the night :D . I don't think I will be going there too often anyway - it isn't exactly close. I just got all excited coz I haven't had stuff like that for four years!!! My sweet tooth is overly satisfied for a long time now!!!!
I am actually allergic to the caffiene in chocolate, which is why I was so sick in the middle of the night

I have to have to give a plug for the new organic yiros bar on Rundle Street in Adelaide. They are very very vegan friendly, they have tofu, and falafel choices as the main filler. The bread is made on the spot, there is a separate preparation area for non-meat orders, and you can pick whatever fillings and sauces you like, from zucchinis, to mushrooms, to spinach, and the good old lettuce tomato tabouli, and every single thing in the store is certified organic, including the soft drinks!
I ate there last week and it was a heavenly experience. Because the food is so natural, and the way nature intended, it made my body feel amazing, like how it should feel if I was to eat 100% organic everyday for every meal. And I was floating on this strange cloud!
And then I ate the Sweet wrap, which is like a pancakey type bread, filled with the most delectable fruits, nuts, etc. Wow that was something else.
Anyway, if anyone reading this lives in Adelaide I ask that you support this business, as places like these often close down in 6 months in Adelaide because no one gives it a go. I know the place serves meat and to a very lesser extent dairy, but how many businesses respect vegetarians and vegans enough to have a separate preparation area, and to make every tiny thing organic (even their uniforms are made from organic hemp grown in Nepal). I think they're wonderful, their food is amazing and I just wanted to spread the word!!!!

Bodhi Cafe Under Central Station, on Eddie Ave, Sydney. 99% vegan. Not too bad, has a fast food take away bar. They use and sell cow milk though. This is a new thing, they used to be 100% vegan. Their cakes and mains are vegan too.
Bodhi is closed now (it's some sort of noodle bar). Before they had the big renovation they sold spinach and tofu pastries that were amazing. I never managed to get the name of the company that made them (I think they're in Melbourne), and I could never recreate them very well myself.
They also had a variety of other vegan pastires and pies. But once they redid the interior of the shop, they also altered their menu quite a bit and it was never the same.

So it seems everyone from Adelaide on here is talking about the Organic yiros bar on Rundle Street.... well I finally went there last night! And, to be honest, while it was EXTREMELY yummy... I don't think I'll return too often. It was very expensive for what it was ($9 for a 7" tofu wrap) and the gluten-free bread is NOT vegan! It has egg in it! So beware :p
However, the tofu and the mushrooms were incredible. The plastic "bin" seats are cute, if a little gawdy, and the staff are very well informed and sensitive.
end review :D
BTW. Drift is still the best veg. cafe in Adelaide IMHO. Spelt pizza night is Friday! You must also try the dutch chocolate/coffee cake. It's a favourite even amongst my non-veg friends. And I have it on good authority that the proprietors are now newly Vegan too! Yay!!!!

Have to agree - Drift not only make a killer burger, but have great coffee too, fair trade from memory.
Thanks for the tip regarding the gluten free wrap!

There are so many vegetarian restaurants in melbourne it's not funny.
But I am shocked that noone has mentioned "Lentil As Anything" yet (near corner of Blessington and Barkly streets, St. Kilda). I take public transport from North Melbourne just to go there. It is truly the very best and very tastiest food I have ever eaten. Plus it's an anti-capitalist, anti-consumer-society establishment, so it's a "pay what you think your meal was worth" kind of deal. No prices. But mmmmmm the food is so good!
No vegan's trip to Melbourne could be complete without a visit to Lentil As Anything!
Also, should anyone be unfortunate enough to be forced to visit Canberra, I suggest Au Lac in Dickson. One of my favourite places to eat.

New vegan restaurant in Brisbane, West End called The Forest. They are on the main drag, Boundary Rd Ph. (07)38-466-181 Tue-Sun. The only non-vegan thing is real milk in the coffee because they found people wouldn't come in otherwise!

Hi
I'm going there tomorrow so I'll let you know. Why don't you go in there and look at the menu? Try something even. I know the head chef, she's very nice, and she just bought my recipe book which is about combining aromatherapy oils with a vegan diet ( http://www.essentialoilcookbook.com) so there may be some interesting changes coming.
Vegan restaurants need our patronage to survive so please send all your friends.
Thanks,

Went last night again (Lentil As Anything). God I love that place.
The 5 star Japanese chef was in again. So I ordered the pancaky thing starting with O. Can never remember the name. But oh did it taste like heaven...

People don't like me in person.
We could all come with a laptop and a phone cord?!
