Wow, thanks so much. I've bought a few gluten-free pastas made with corn and rice flours and been pretty happy with them. Good enough for me, anyway! It says they only post products in the US at the moment but I'll definitely have a look out for quinoa pasta around here, 'cause I'd rather be eating quinoa than rice. :)

Kale, quinoa, vegan sour cream (must...have...spinach dip), soy or almond milk, tofu and tempeh, steel cut oats, and miso paste. And of course fruits and veggies and the occasional pint of vegan ice cream. :lol:

Oils:
Rapeseed
Sesame oil
Olive oil
Extra Virgin Olive Oil (for dressings and drizzling)

Vinegars:
Rice wine (Asian sauces)
Balsamic (dressings)
Red wine (for dips etc)
Malt (chips, and for cleaning/use as a fabric softener)

In big jars lining my kitchen I have:
Wholewheat pasta
Wholewheat spaghetti
Rice noodles
Cous cous
Bulgar wheat
Quinoa
Brown rice
Arborio rice
Dried pinto beans
Dried rosecoco beans
Dried black eyes peas
Dried red slpit lentils
Dried chickpeas
Dried turtle beans
Flour - plain (we don't by SR, just add appropriate amounts of raising agents to plain)

Tins/cartons/packets in pantry:
Chopped tomatoes - lots of these, I stock up when decent ones are on offer
Passata
Baked beans (been on offer lately so we have a million)
Chapattis - again, were cheap at Tesco lately
Olives - about 30 jars as were 75% off (can you see a pattern emerging?)
A few tins of cooked chickpeas/lentils for last minute meals

Herbs/seasonings/spreads:
Soy sauce
Organic veg stock cubes
Reduced sodium yeast extract with added vitamins (low salt supermarket Marmite!)
Nutritional Yeast
Ketchup
Mustard
Garam Masala
Ground Cumin
Ground Coriander

Medium curry powder

Paprika - both regular and smoked
Garlic powder (great on sweet potato fries)

Hi! I am going shopping today, today is day 10 of my new lifestyle and I have made a lot of mistakes from not understanding labels, things like Vit D and other additives. I'd like a few ideas for some vegan must-haves in the kitchen, and some stay-away ideas as well. Grape Nuts are not vegan :( I was bummed. Anyway, any help is truly appreciated, thank-you all. :)

I think everybody approaches food shopping differently. Some people plan meals before they go to the supermarket, others (like me!) pick up things that look yummy and try to figure out what to do with them! :)

Lots and lots of organic, local produce with some compromise (for example, I will buy non-organic, foreign fruits like mangoes and avocados).
Gluten-free vanilla extract (I like Spice Islands)
King Arthur organic whole wheat flour
Active dry yeast
Earth Balance soy-free spread
Dry beans and lentils (I usually stockpile black, kidney and pinto beans)
Pearl barley (I use Bob's Red Mill)
Nutritional Yeast fortified with B12
Raw pecans and almonds
Medjool dates
Sugar in the Raw (I use this to make my powdered sugar also)
Cold-pressed coconut oil
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Brown rice

What I found helpful was looking at vegan blogs to see if they have a shopping list. And I built up one of my own.

Asian cooking

Firm and silken tofu
Jasmine rice- to make the sticky Chinese style rice
Miso
Light and dark soy sauce
Hoisin sauce
Shiaoxing rice wine
Black rice vinegar
White rice vinegar
Chili dipping sauce
Spring onions
Water chestnuts
Pak choi
Pineapple
Garlic
Ginger
Turmeric
Tamarind paste
Coconut milk
Sesame oil
Chinese five spice
Groundnut oil


Baking

Vitalite- the most 'buttery' tasting margarine.
Castor sugar-Tate and Lyle is vegan
Icing sugar- Tate and Lyle is vegan
Golden syrup- Tate and Lyle is vegan
Light and dark muscovado- Billingdon's is vegan
Demerara- Billingdon's is vegan
Apple cider vinegar- for baking and beauty uses. I use Biona.
Sweetened soy milk
Unsweetened soy milk
Puff pastry JusRol are the only pastries that I've found that are vegan and palm oil free.
Filo pastry
Vegetable fat- for use in baking, pastry and butter cream. A good substitute for butter.
Cornflour- for cakes and thickening sauces.
Sunflower oil
Sugarflair food dye
Plain flour
Cocoa
Bicarbonate of soda- also for beauty uses
Baking powder
Vanilla essence
Almond essence
Instant coffee

Breads


Bagels
Tortilla wraps
Sainbury's crumpets
Sainsbury's panko- palm oil free. Good for making breaded seitan escalopes

Condiments, dressings and dips


Ketchup
Balsamic vinegar
Agave- a sugar or honey substitute
Mustard
Guacamole
Salsa

Dairy/ meat substitutes


Cashews-for creaminess.
Coconut cream- makes an excellent whipped cream substitute. I use Blue Dragon brand.
Soy yogurt- good to make vegan cheese with. Mix with fruit for a nice breakfast.
Glutenous rice flour- to make stringy cheese.
Nutritional yeast- to add a 'cheesy' flavour to things. Good source of vitamin B12.
Flaxseed- a good egg substitute. Add to yogurt or cereal for a nutritious breakfast.
Lemon juice- to substitute the tanginess in some cheeses.
Wheat gluten- to make seitan mock meat.
