My wife bought one of the mint chocolate bars at our co-op the other day because we happen to have a cupon. For some reason I though that only animal products has cholesterol in them, but this chocolate bar has a small amount of cholesterol in it. Where does the cholesterol come from? I know the product is vegan because for one it says it on the back and they also sell them on vegan essentials.com

I found this information on Wikipedia "Plants have trace amounts of cholesterol, so even a vegan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegan) diet, which includes no animal foods, has traces of cholesterol. However, the amounts are very small. For example, the amount of cholesterol in one egg is approximately equal to the amount in 9.6 litres (19.57 pounds) of pure peanut oil." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cholesterol#Food_sources So maybe it's something to do with that.

Alternatively it could be a labeling error.

I bought something that said it had cholesterol in a while ago. Maybe that was chocolate too... I can't remember, but I remember being surprised.
