The University of Toronto, who first pushed for Fluoride to be added to the water supply, is now issuing an apology. The health department changed their stance and issuing an alert that Fluoride is a poison. FOX News reports that Fluoride in the US is contaminated with Lead and Arsenic.

Found to play major role in osteoporosis, arthritus and bone cancer.

99% of water filters cant get fluoride out of the water. Only through reverse osmosis and distillation.

Tennessee will be the first state to ban fluoridated water. Quebec City will halt it by 2008.

Fluoride is a poison, as the back of your toothpaste tube reads. It is also a rat poison and was fed to POWs during WWII (not because they were concerned about their cavitities. Fluoride has a docilizing effect on the brain.)

I read somewhere that they use Fluoride to poison rats.... wow if they were vivisectors it wouldn't have got to humans..... but according to some articles they actually use a far more toxic form in the water supply. (Though diluted)

It's one thing for people to choose to take fluoride tablets but quite another to put it into the water so EVERYONE has to take it.
This week in Queensland, our premier, Peter Beatty, has announced he will take control of all Qld water systems, and is thinking of adding fluoride. The water here in Qld doesn't have fluoride but now we are having doctor organisations insisting that it would be a good thing. :(

Hmm...Tennessee first, eh? I live in Tennessee. I've been using home water filters since 2001 though.

Pilaf, you better hope you are using water filter from that 1% that CAN get the fluoride out. :(

It says on the replacement filters that it gets most flouride out.

I assume that means not all, but most is better than none.

I'd prefer all, but most is a good start.

Fluoridating the water supply is a very cost effective means of greatly reducing tooth decay (dental caries) in the general and especially poor populations. Sure, in high doses it can cause many ills and be deemed a poison, but the same can be said of sodium chloride, which we all (almost) eat every day.

These "news" reports are sensationalism. Fox news is a joke in my book. There may be some groups of people who should monitor their fluoride consumption, but in general, I think fluoridating the water supply is a good idea. The following list of organizations agree with me:
http://www.fluoridefacts.org/fluoride/flu_supp_org.asp

Although it's just anecdotal evidence, I have had fluoride in my water supply my whole life and I have never had a cavity.

Freqy, you're thinking of chlorine. Similarly a toxic poison when used in large amounts (only) and used for chemical warfare during WW I by Germany in gas form, it is the chemical added to all of our water supplies to keep the germs out as water travels to our homes. From my understanding, unlike fluoride, it serves no medical purpose to drink it, it's just to protect water in its travel and storage, so filtering it out just prior to drinking our water (for taste purposes) makes sense to me.

This is by far the best article on the scare tactics used by the anti fluoridation crowd I have ever read, complete with solid references:
