I love the whole "before and after" thing BC!

I promised myself I wouldn't look at this thread while dieting. I have no will power... :o

Did you follow a recipe BC? I should cook from recipes more. I rarely cook and when I do it's normally a made up on the spot stew or soup.

I don't normally follow recipes but I had to with this meal as I didn't know how to cook ackee, plantain or okra. I just got the recipes from the internet. The rice was so nice I will definitely make it again, it had banana, apple, onion, coconut milk and curry powder in. It was also supposed to have molasses in it but I have no idea what that is!:D

I am going to ask my friend from Trinidad how to cook the rest of the okra as she has a good recipe and the one I used yesterday wasn't that interesting, it was just okra with garlic, onion and tomatoes.

BlackCats, that restaurant looks nice. Am wondering if we can force my m-in-l to go there as she lives in that part of the world. She won't knowingly eat anything Indian or Chinese but they seem to have Italian stuff too and she can sometimes be persuaded to eat that  Have you tried anything Italian there?

I had no idea that ackee was good for you, have only ever seen it at a Jamaican restaurant.

Thanks.:) Yes ackee is supposed to be rich in fatty acids so it's good for you nutritionally. It's expensive though, over £5 for one tin. I already used half of the tin for that meal.:amazed_ani:

'A Pinch of Veg' looks really good - like the variety. I never imagined there could be a vegan restuarant anywhere in Essex!

£5 for a tin of ackee?! I hope my OH didn't pay that for the tin that languished in his cupboard for over a year until it passed it's use by date! We were a bit dubious about what it would be like but we'll have to get another one after your endorsement!

Your cakes etc look so professional, Kitteh - you must have a real talent there. I was briefly excited by the idea of fat-free peanut butter but I see they are using "fat-free" in a rather specialised sense :D

Thank you, Harpy :) And I thought that too but she tagged the recipe as "lower fat" because there is no oil in the recipe but there is 1/2 a cup of peanut butter!

Raw mango cake, I don't know what this company are called but I bet you will recognise them, you know those amazing HUGE salady wraps and salad boxes you can get from vegan fayres and they also have a stall at Spittalfields market, well them lol!

Good old sausage mash and peas and gravy! I really like those tofu griller sausages but finding them is harsh round here and they are pretty expensive. :( Delicious though!

This is a hero meal in our house, its vegan, GF and so quick and easy. Dosent look much but it has loads of garlic and ginger and 5 spice so its very tasty and always a little fight over the leftovers cold the next day.

Rainforest rings a bell! They have 3-4 raw cakes, I am slowly working my way through them but rarely get to Spittalfields. I'm not sure how often the market is on but I always go on a Sunday. There are other bakery stalls there with vegan cakes, I had a chocolate slice too, Was vile! Stale as old boots. Buyers beware! :(

The cashew rice is so easy and fast, fry up onion, peppers, pineapple, corn, peas, water chestnuts and any other veg you have around, loads of garlic, ginger, 5 spice, tamari, chilli sauce and a dash of agave. Cook until a little jammy. Home roast a mug of cashews and boil lots of rice and then mix together when all cooked. Its really nice cold with a salad too.
