I just had my first vegan dinner party about two days ago! A professor from the college I had just graduated from visited. He was in the area because his denomination, the Mennonites, are having a convention in my home town, Columbus OH, right now. He was the same professor who I wrote a paper on the ethical foundations of veganism for, and who said that after reading my paper, he felt extremely guilty but decided to "live in sin" as he called it, by continuing to eat meat. So I was happy to make a nice yummy vegan meal to prove to him that vegan food was good too!

The menu:

Grilled spinach, kale, and cassava tortillas

http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww132/rotoshave/IMG_2492.jpg?t=1246633911

Spinach, kale, and romaine salad with roasted portobellos and mustard sauce (no picture, sorry)

Grufflic red and white bean jambalaya (note: I think seitan is a stupid word, it sounds to muh like Satan, so in my family everybody calls seitan gruffles)

http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww132/rotoshave/IMG_2494.jpg?t=1246634090

And for dessert a vanilla soy yoghurt poundcake:

http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww132/rotoshave/IMG_2493.jpg?t=1246634143

Our guest said that he might consider turning vegan if he had realized the food was this good! He also said that as a professor he visited a lot of peoples houses, and there food was usually dull and tasteless. This vegan food, however, he said, was well spiced, succulent and tasty! :D When he said that I felt so happy proving to an omni that vegan food is as tasty and even tastier then meat dishes! He was pleasantly surprised by my vegan dinner party.

Also, here's something I made for myself and my family a couple days ago for dinner: http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww132/rotoshave/IMG_2489.jpg?t=1246634381

Potatos, kale, chunky chili sauce enchiladas.

Chocolate & Strawberry Cupcake
The basic recipe for cupcakes from Vegan Cupcakes Take Over The World, but with added chocolate and chopped dried strawberries in the cake, topped with sprinkles, whipped soya creem, and fresh sliced strawberry (from the back garden). So omnomnomish.:satisfied:

And this sounds like an interesting topic for a paper. Was it a philosophy class? Might I be able to read it?

Wow jam box, you made your own burger buns? That is just above and beyond! That truffle looks amazing as well. On average, how long would you say you spend in kitchen per week? ;)

No, but really.

I don't see the face! I guess I see potential for faces, but not one particular face...

Yeah, the burger buns were just the Easy French Bread from La Dolce Vegan made into smaller rolls. I don't make bread from scratch very often, but when I do I usually mix, knead and do the first rise the night before, then put it in the fridge and do the second rise and baking the next day.

Hours in the kitchen...I probably cook about three times a week, making three to four servings at a time...so...maybe five or six hours? Not counting throwing breakfast together and heating up leftovers. I'm actually planning to attend a natural chef course starting at the end of September, so I'm going to be spending LOTS more time cooking.
