Pavotrouge: i've never seen temph before- it looks abit like tofu. Where do you get it from...looks lush!

If you have a good health food store they usually have it in the refrigerator with the tofu's and fake meat slices. It comes in a square plastic bag with either a green or blue big label. Not sure what difference the colour signifies though as it is not something I buy. Really good health food stores also have a brand that comes in a large glass jar too.

You can also get deep fried tempeh rashers which you can use instead of fake bacon in sandwiches or as a side dish etc. That comes in square-ish shrink wrapped plastic and have a grocery store style label. The slices are a dark brown in colour. Despite being pre-packed they priced per weight ad depending on the pack can usually cost anywhere between £2.70 and £3.50 so it pays to look through the ones on the shelf.

I have also noticed that Redwood, who make the vegan fake bacon, have also released their own brand of Tempeh rashers.

Michael.

Looks good. What do you make the egg-a-like stuff from?

MarkAnthony
May 5th, 2008, 04:15 PM
2/3 cup gram flour and a cup of water, seasoned with salt, pepper and mixed herbs.

To make these well you need a generous amount of oil to fry it in too.

Aye, well worth doing I think. I reckon those Redwood's Chorizo style pieces would go brilliantly in one as well.

Make sure you beat the gram flour and water really well as its a bugger to get to mix completely. Ideally whack it in a blender for a couple of minutes.

Also, once you've fried the batter with veg/whatever you want in it stick it under the grill for about ten minutes so that the top sets.

It's been far too long since I came on this thread, it's making me hungry!

MissBettie - I love a good tuna/chickpea casserole, yours looks good.
Pavotrouge - your tempeh cacciatore is straight up my alley.
Yum - cute b-day cake! I am making my birthday cake(s) next week.
CedarBlue - all of your food looks fabulous, but especially the raw pasta with deli dip.
EmmaP, I want those fried things!
And PoisonIvy, I think we share a brain...you'll see why in my last pic.

Haha, I forgot to say that as I was icing him, his left leg snapped off so of course we had to take a bit of his other leg and then I thought I better save the top half to photograph. He was gone a few moments after that photo was taken!
