If not, I think it's something to really look out for and in my opinion should be totally eliminated from all food products. I have also seen it in Vegan Meats. I have confirmed for myself that it does cause gastrointestinal issues when I drank lots of Silk Soymilk. I became dizzy, stomach pains that lasted for days, and just an overall sickness. I felt like I was poisoned. According to research it is toxic and a carcinogenic. Since I've stopped drinking Soymilk, I no longer experience the symptoms described. I have switched to Rice Milk by Rice Dream.

Carrageenan needs more study before it's put in our foods.

I'm sure there are other thickening agents that are not harmful to the body, I just don't know what!

Another good article:

It's a seaweed derived, thickening agent believed to cause digestive problems, stomach lesions and colon cancer, it's also an ingredient used in most of the vegan cheeses that I’ve seen as well as some of the fake meats. This has been worrying me since I found out which is why I've stopped eating them.

I eat carageenan. In fact, I bought a bunch of it dry at the bulk section the other day to use on experiements.

I think that I also have a stomach lined with steel, as I don't feel any aches or anything bad from MSG or carageenan or anything just about ever. Heck, in college I did an eating contest where we took shots of olive oil. That ALMOST made my sick (after the fifth shot), but that's just me.

Interesting article. It would be nice if SILK soymilk made it's product without carageenan, as I'd like more people to enjoy soymilk, and I'd sure like to reduce my intake, but I'm not going to change any of my habits at the moment. I'm still going to eat Tofutti desserts (which are full of carageenan), and drink SILK soymilk, and go about my business as usual.

Regardless, it is interesting, and if someone in my family seems to have a stomach ache, I'll know to look out in case it is carageenan.

Hey Angelo, I also read about that a couple of years ago and have completely avoided it since. It is really annoying because it is in all cheeses I have seen in Australia as well as other random things. Ahhh the things we do to avoid illness (of course it is worth it) but I get so angry about what they put in things that are KNOWN to be bad (ie carcinogenic) for humans - HOW can that be legal???

yeah i'm sorry if it's a coincidence too, it's just that I couldn't help but spot the corroborations and similarities. I couldn't not let the horrible cynic in me let me accuse...

I'm not worried about it at all.
