Hey,

Were trying to make seitan at home at the moment but we can't find vital wheat gluten anywhere (in east london). Were willing to go further afield but some direction to the search would be awesome!

Anyone have any suggestions?

I got mine from ebay (just to try it out), and it was like £8 inc delivery for 900g of the stuff. If you're willing to invest in it, buy from www.flourbin.co.uk - you need to buy a lot in order to qualify for the minimum order, and even then they add delivery on top - but it's far cheaper.

It's not fair that americans get it so easily!

Just looked: it's £10 min order, and £6.95 del. cost for weights up to 26kg. Seeing as you're in london, you could order a shed load to make the most of the flat rate shipping, and I'll buy half off you!

Cool thanks! I'll look into it and get back to you.

I haven't made it before.
Did you find it easy to make?

Well the chickpea cutlets I made were, good, but my seitan was too fluffy. I don't know if I put too much of something in... I'll try another recipe. Other than that it was pretty easy to make.

I'm in America but it might be worth it to check out the baking aisles at different grocery stores. It is used for bread making.

I've never seen gluten sold in a shop in the UK, it's easy to find in north america but not here.
