My little girls have just read a book about a lady in Japan making little fried cakes decorated with maple leaves. Which of course were delicious...
Does anybody know if these cakes really exist please? Googling has found that sometimes red maple leaves are poisonous for horses. Has anybody ever heard of people eating maple leaves?
Thanks in advance:lol::lol: faces chosen by my daughters.

Wonder if the author is thinking of these?

Maybe you and the girls could make maple-leaf shaped cakes and flavour them with maple syrup? Not quite the same but at least you wouldn't have to find bean paste!

You can buy tinned bean paste from oriental supermarkets, but it's not too difficult to make your own.

Thanks Harpy and Sluggie,
I even have a small tin of sweet bean paste which has been waiting on the shelf for a year or two now, waiting for me to be inspired and now I am!!!..We will see what we can do.
The book we have seems to be talking about these cakes, it is a beautiful Japanese collage picture book which has enchanted us. EuEu even had to get her hair like the little girl in it. (Lili is still growing her hair down to her pants.)
