Not unusual in themselves, but lesser know in certain recipes.

I found a curry recipe in an old BBC magazine for aubergine, butternut squash and cashew curry

.... make up a basic curry paste, then cook up onion with the paste, cinnamon and star anise ... then add stock - and here's the unusual ingredient ... lager!

Simmer that away, then periodically add vegies, and at the end stir in some cashews.

It was LUSH! I've never cooked anything like that with lager before - the taste was there, but not overpowering .. I'll definatley make the curry again.

Do you make anything with an odd ingredient?

I've seen a (non-vegan) hamburger recipe that contained peanut butter right in the meat mix.
I haven't had the courage to try it veganized yet, because I can't get over the idea of peanut butter and ketchup on the same burger. Ew.

Perhaps if I used thai ingredients...?

Broad bean soup with figs. The figs give a very delicate flavour to the finished soup, an easy recipe too if I remember rightly.
