Hello all!

A vegan friend of mine recently inspired me to join something called 'The Vegan Forum'. Intrigued, I found the site and attempted to join. Funnily enough, though, I (re)discovered that I've been a member since August 2004...all I can say is 1) apologies for it taking me so long to get involved and 2) TGIF! :)

Just briefly, I'm 26, have been vegan for going on five years now, am originally from the States, and have lived in the UK for almost three years all together. I was vegetarian off and on in high school, but became vegan during my fourth year at uni when all that I had seen, learned, and been taught coalesced and veganism just made perfect sense.

I look forward to meeting you all and wish you a great evening/weekend.

Nice one Roedypants! Welcome to VF.

Anyway, who is your chum who suggested this here forum?

Thanks for the warm welcome all. :)

matt35mm: Very cool! I'd ask 'what are the chances that two vegans from the States would be living in Brighton' but it's obvious why - it's terrific here. :)

Stu: I'm not sure what my friend's SN is. She's a new-ish member, though, and from what I understand she's just been lurking in the shadows.......

I haven't yet, nope. Thanks for the head's up!

I threaded my way through Salisbury earlier this week, though, on my way to and from Cheltenham. What pretty country up there! :)

Very cool! Despite Brighton being 'the' place for vegans to be, I've yet to meet any. Is there an active vegan social group in town?

Not a formal one that I know of, but there's nothing stopping us from meeting (and eating). I'm always in the mood for Red Veg or cake from Infinity Cafe.

I know quite a few vegans who are going to University of Sussex, including my flatmate, but I got pretty lucky with just happening to meet these people.

Here is a list of organisations:- http://www.veggies.org.uk/acd/europe/uk/england/countye.htm

The Cowley Club (http://www.cowleyclub.org.uk/?Other_Meetings_and_Events) is worth a look, all the food is vegan. Brighton Animal Action (http://www.brightonanimalaction.org/) (who run regular demos at the Sealife Centre) meet there regularly.

The 12 London Road Social Club (12LRSC) (http://www.cowleyclub.org.uk/?What%27s_on_-_Bar) is a seperate organisation from the Cowley Club although run on the same premises.

I forgot to mention that VeganLiz (a member here) has regular 'cake & chocolate' meet ups in Brighton where everyone brings vegan cake to share. Everyone is welcome, it is not exclusively VF members as it is advertised elsewhere too. I think it is usually once a month.
She will start a new thread in the UK Meet Ups section advertising the date of the next one so keep a look out.

Remind me - why don't I live in Brighton?

Hi Bradders and Cherry - thanks for taking the time to extend me a warm welcome. :)

Marrers - excellent info, thanks very much! When I moved down to Brighton last year, I contacted the Vegan Society for info on social groups in the area and found that they weren't able to be all that helpful.

Are any of you all members? What's your take on the Society?
