View Full Version : What could I use to replace tofu in a sweet potato flan?

It's basically onions, a kg of sweet potatoes, coconut cream, seasonings and 225g (7oz) tofu but I would like to make it soy free.

Everything is cooked until the sweet potato is tender, blended w/ the tofu and then poured into a pastry shell.

Any suggestions? Ta!

You could try using a few tablespoons of agar flakes dissolved in hot water (I think I used 4) and a cup of flax seeds that have been soaked for a few hours in hot water.

I also used coconut meat (like the hard part of the coconut) once but I don't really think it would taste right in a savoury recipe.

If it's silken tofu in the recipe maybe you could also try substituting a (thick) white sauce? If it's ordinary tofu that might be too sloppy.

A suggestion on the ppk was for ground up cashews, so I threw some in the blender with some water and added that. But I also added more coconut cream than was asked for and it was too soggy and didn't set up, maybe I should try agar.

Thanks guys!

Maybe you could try using solid coconut blended up instead of the coconut cream?

The agar should work but it will make it more jelly like.
