Hey, folks. The nutritionist and I are compiling some "interesting facts" to print out for Go Vegan Day in the dining hall. I type in "interesting facts veganism" in Google and get nothing interesting at all. I found a small number of "fun facts," which are great, but I want some serious facts, too. I found this thread with very serious facts (http://www.veganforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3743), which I like as well, but what I was actually hoping for were some fun facts about veganism itself. We also have a list of important/famous vegans, so that doesn't count.

Can anyone help me come up with some interesting (or fun) facts about veganism, or does anyone know of a compilation of such facts? I really want to convey the importance of veganism in this, not get people to think this is a joke or something severe and frightening (or maybe it should be frightening?).

Thanks!

I found this page but it is reasons to go vegetarian - some of them might be of use to you though.

Thanks, Digital Ghost! I really like the first one. The second one seems like a bunch of half-fibbed "facts," unfortunately.

Yeah - I think you have to look through all of them really.

'6) Vegans dont smoke, and smoking is one of the leading causes of death'

The first part of that isn't always true.

'12) The USFDA recognizes vegetarian and vegan diets as the healthiest diets.'

Somehow (although I wish they did) I doubt that is true.

Out of interest I don't think the facts you use should be frightening - I think you should start of with some fun/funny ones to entice people to read it and then include some more factual statements towards the middle.

Digital Ghost - That's exactly what I was thinking. :)

Gorilla - Those are very serious facts, but brilliant! Thanks. :)

I came up with one that's about veganism itself! Sweet:

The word ‘vegan’ was originally derived from ‘vegetarian’ in 1944 when Elsie Shrigley and Donald Watson, frustrated that the term had come to include the consumption of animal byproducts rather than a completely plant-based diet. Watson called it "the beginning and end of vegetarian."
