Does anyone here make their own rice milk? I need a new milk so I don't get bored of banana milk from overdoing it but am finding nut/seed milks a bit heavy. I'd like to have a go at making rice milk but all the milk recipes I can find are for nut or seed or soya ones. Is it just the same with rice? Do I just cook the rice then blend and strain? And is there anything creative and yummy I could do with the pulp?

Blend a banana with water lol (or more bananas depending on how much you want to make). I thought it was just something I made up but saw it in a recipe book the other day! Sometimes I add seeds/dates, but usually just a banana. Mostly to go on porridge/breakfasty type things, I'm not sure it would work in tea!

Narna milk = yum!

And The Rupublic of Bunny blog has a rice milk base: http://therepublicofbunny.blogspot.com/2009/05/rice-milk-recipe-and-some-news.html

Hey Maiden,

Did you ever find a rice milk recipe? Here's mine:
Bring 8 cups of water to a boil and add 1 cup of rinsed long grain brown rice.
After adding the rice, turn down the heat to low, put the lid on the pot and simmer it for 3 hours.
Then pour off the extra water and fill a blender half full of the rice mush and half with water.
Blend until smooth.
Strain twice through a nut milk bag or cheese cloth.
After straining you can blend in sweeteners like Agave nectar or molasses.

Enjoy!

What I would like to know is if anyone knows how to do it in a pressure cooker. I'm thinking of picking one up this weekend. It seems like it would definitely speed things up.
