Researchers Say Healthy Diet Protects Against Depression In Middle Age

A new study led by researchers in the UK found that an overall healthy "whole food" diet comprising a high proportion of fruits, vegetables and fish, protected middle aged people against depression compared to a processed food diet containing a high proportion of high fat dairy food, processed meat, fried food, refined grains and sugar-laden desserts.

It's too bad the research lumps so many things together. The fish, for example, could be a red herring as it were...

Thanks for that Harpy. It's annoying they had to mention fish though!:rollseyes_ani:

Well the whole thing's of limited use really as they only recognise 2 different types of diet and obviously there are as many diets as people.

Still they can now do some more research to narrow it down a bit and see which specific foods may make you depressed/not depressed - although as they say "there was a possibility that the finding could be explained by a lifestyle factor they had not accounted for"
