I will be spending 3 days in Durham next month attending a conference.
Does any one have any updated or new information about places to eat. I am not keen on eating at omni places but will have to if hungry enough i suppose. Are there any totally vegan places?

check out the VegNE website as I know they have a guide to the area

Im sure Ive heard of a veggie takeaway in Durham.
Durham is a funny place as there are lots of students, plenty of vegans live there but vegans arnt catered for very well at all

hope it helps

Newcastle is 10 minutes on the train from Durham and has 3 vegetarian places, Bob Trollops which is a pub on the Quayside, Jack Spratts and Sky Apple Cafe which are both in Heaton, a suburb of Newcastle.
There is Tans in Hexham, which is also vegetarian but I've never been there.
As far as I know (and I've been here 16 years) there are no other 100% vegetarian eateries.
As for student numbers, Newcastle has 2 major universities and one major FE college and has a huge student population, whereas Durham has a far smaller student population. Duham is also a fairly small town, despite having a famous university, wheras Newcastle is a biggish city with a very large conurbation around it. It's the law of supply and demand.

the Tams in Hexham is a funny place
its labeled as veggie but they also serve fish

due to this many veggies avoid the place but I keep hearing stories that ppl have tried the fish, thinking its was fake fish n then getting annoyed.

there is another 100% veggie palce inj Northumberland - the garden station
www.thegardenstation.co.uk (http://www.thegardenstation.co.uk/) although Im not sure when it closes for the winter

the good news is that 2 new veggie eating places are due to be opening in newcastle shortly with another 2 looking for premeses
