Nice one!

Don't suppose you are open weekends? Really want to give it a try...

if you look at the location you'll see why we're not! the City is dead on saturday and sunday!

Thanks Frank. Amico Bio sounds intestering - hoping that the seitan it serves is comparable with that in New York! Not sure about the strawberries with balsamic for dessert (had that before and not a fan) but at least they're trying. Will definately check it out.
Pilpel is right by where I work - don't know why I haven't been in there yet. Have you been? In theory everything should be suitable but I'd be a bit worried they might sneak something into the falafel or hommous...

So last weekend I went to London to visit a friend. We ate at The Gate vegetarian restaurant (Hammersmith) on Friday night and I really liked it - the food was tasty, there were vegan options, vegan wine and it was all reasonably priced. The decor/atmosphere was nice and the staff helpfully stored my suitcase behind the bar. It was pretty busy but the service was good and we weren't kept waiting. In fact, they fitted us in earlier than we had booked for (due to an overestimation on our part of how long it would take to get there from Euston). If I was being really picky then I would have liked to have seen a bit more choice on the vegan desserts - there were two 'pudding' type desserts and Swedish Glace only - where was my chocolate/cheesecake?!

Saturday I went to SAF in Whole Foods and got a lunch to take away to eat in Holland Park - really tasty but not cheap at £8.50 for a (tempeh) sandwich.

Sunday I made it to the SSOV shop near Kings Cross and had a fantastic soyashake made with vegan Oreos. I also bought a chocolate brownie for later. Definitely worth checking out.

It would be so nice if Birmingham was even a quarter as well served by vegan shops/restaurants as London!

It would be nice.

Even allowing for London being about 7.5 X bigger population wise than Birmingham - we simply don't have an attractive percentage split!!!

I think everyone in brum that wanted to run a veggie place went down to London to set one up......

i went to vegan routes with some friends earlier today, a double decker bus in soho converted into a restaurant :) i wouldn't say it was amazing, but the food was nice enough and i enjoyed recapturing my youth sat at the back on the top deck of the bus mocking people (only this time there were sex shops everywhere which made it more entertaining)

Beatroot on Berwick Street, Soho is also a good place for a tasty good value meal. Not everything is vegan but the staff know what's what.

Enjoy your visit Magenta. :)

If the weather's nice (a big "if" I know!) you could have some picnics (ETA as already suggested by mariana :o).

For example buy some food in the Wholefoods Market in Kensington High St (not exactly a bargain basement admittedly) and take it to nearby Holland Park, or get a takeaway from Tibits (off Regent St) or Beatroot and take it to Green Park.

Happy hols!

Thanks so much for your replies! Mariana, that list of ideas is very helpful, thank you, I'll make sure to look up those places so I can find them when I get there :)

A nice summer picnic in the park sounds wonderful... I hope the weather will allow it!

The new branch of Scoop is now open at 53 Brewers Street (right next door to Glasshouse Stores pub!)
I'm enjoying a small cup piled high with one scoop of extra dark chocolate sorbet and one scoop of melon sorbet - yum. :D

I saw that the other day. Such great placement for vegans. I was too full up at the time to get anything from there though.:p

i had quite bad experiences with peking palace lately and it might be of interest to all other ppl who enjoyed that venue so far.

i ordered a home delivery recently with them which absolutely did not match any customer service or quality standards they had so far. when i ordered with an asian woman i clearly instructed them to call me once they arrive (some elevator works in my building, would not be able to let anybody in at the main door). i got a bit nervous after an hour with no sign of the delivery and called them. the delivery guy (another asian, obviously not quite good at understanding english) said he left his mobile at pp and couldn't call me. also he pretended my house number wasn't in the postcode area given (i already had 3 home deliveries of them before, without any probs). so i described about 5 times again where i live. so far so good, he actually called me when he was at the wrong address again. of course, i had to describe it another three times. his excuse was that his tomtom couldn't find my address.

the food delivered was terrible. when opening my braised aubergine you could already see the grease swimming. it was unbearable in taste, since you couldn't taste anything else than grease and was more like a huge chunk of butter. my bf confirmed. the dipping sauce for my dumplings was pure vinegar - sthg else completely unbearable. the food of my bf seemed ok. the next day both of us had a funny tummy. i wanted to complain and drop then email (so that they might understand it better if it is written down). to their advantage, there is none given on their homepage.

i find that experience a bit concerning. it could be a one-off, but personally i am well put off ordering there any time again (either eat-in or delivery)

Just joined because I wanted to say how fantastic Amico Bio is! Can't recommend it enough, the food and (vegan) wine is excellent and the staff are fantastic.. it may sound like I work for them but I don't, I just really want them to stay open as they are but a short walk from my office and one of the few places in the City where I can eat out!;)

Hello, and thanks for the tip-off, Beak. I quite often go to the Barbican for concerts and my OH works round there too so we'll see what we can do to keep them in business for you!

Well, I (BOOM! Bakery) am now taking orders for some of my desserts! With the kitchen that I work in being based in Central London, you can conveniently collect your desserts from me with only 24-hours notice required.

Also I shall have a stall of my own soon! My logo and site are being design at the moment, and I will let y'all know when everything is in place.

I'm often at the Barbican for concerts as well but have always found it an awkward area to find food in. Hopefully things will be better now.

Amico Bio was mentioned along with some other new restaurants earlier in the thread - as it looks like people may have missed it here is the post:- http://veganforum.com/forums/showpost.php?p=647419&postcount=82

Good luck with your new venture Bryzee. Do you do all your cooking in the work kitchen? I assume collection is only available in their very short opening hours? I wish this had come a week earlier as I had to buy a cake from Wholefoods for a party last week . . . but I might need another soon. :)
