I am a new vegan, but have been somewhat aware of the animal liberation movement for awhile.

Besides consumerism of vegan foods and products, what more can I do?? I want to do something that will make a difference.

Any Ideas?
Anyone else feel this way as well?

I do too. I'm just not sure where there are any vegans/animal activists in my area, or who would organize anything.

'Lo Sgable :)

Personally I feel that the most important form of activism is to directly address the root cause of the problem which one wants to be active in eliminating.

T'root cause of the problem of meat eating, imho, is the individual meat eater him/her self.

Those individuals we all work with, trade with, socialise with and, for a lot people (see any 'vegan partner?' topic poll) 'bump uglies' with as well.

All I'm thinking here is this: We kinda live amongst the roots and what can we ever do that will make more difference than a bit of relentless 'hacking' there?

Here the Vegan Society would give you some advice on starting a local group if you wanted to - I don't know whether any of their advice is useful to you: http://www.vegansociety.com/resources/get-active/vegan-group.aspx

There is a list of vegetarian groups in the US here - perhaps you could contact the nearest one and see if they know of a vegan group near where you are (the active members of vegetarian groups are often actually vegan)

Hope you can find (or start) what you want!

should be loads in your area, The Queen ;).

VIVA! and Animal Aid have lists of contacts and local groups, there's also lists to be found online by googling your area.
There's a lot you can do by yourself, including leafletting houses (free leaflets from Animal Aid, PeTA, VIVA!, Vegan Society, etc, letter writing (e.g to MPs), petititioning, speaking in schools, donating books to your local ibrary, and doing stalls and fundraising :).
