Just read this article on the guardian website: http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/jul/09/amazon-book-depository-takeover

So now I've gone off amazon a bit. Are there any decent alternatives that people know of?
And what do people think about the amazon takeover? is amazon one of the baddies?

Im not really surprised that they have taken over bookdepository - a lot of the books on Amazon Marketplace are sold by bookdepository (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/shops/storefront/index.html?ie=UTF8&marketplaceID=A1F83G8C2ARO7P&sellerID=AHRB2OK2Q2YCL). I dont know if they are baddies but they have done some questionable things in the past.
I use Bookkoob (http://www.bookkoob.co.uk/book/156924264X.htm) to find the best price for books - when you search for a book they list a load of different online retailers (bookfellas, sprint books, Waterstones, Foyles etc) you could try some of these.:)

Oh well, at least we can still go to good old bricks and mortar, high street bookshops like Waterstones and erm...Waterstones and oh yeah, Waterstones.

I'm really lucky if I travel 20 mins to Southport they have several (you might need to sit down to read this)..... Independent book shops:

Broadhursts (http://ckbroadhurst.co.uk/) - Very good (Terry Pratchet chose to do a book signing here)
Parkinsons (http://www.parki.co.uk/) - bit of an odd one but still good
There is also one in St. Helens called Wardleworths

Maybe you could try visiting some of these ZoeP?
