Mountain View, CA?

Heeeeeelp!
My boyfriend just secured an internship and will be working full time in Mountain View. I'll be going with him, but as a tourist (from the UK) - so locals I am asking you the following questions!:



Good Veggie places to eat?
Places to go?
Things to do during the day?
Obviously I can't take up paid employment, so I'll need something to fill my time with. None of my friends can afford to visit so I'll be fighting homesickness and boredom
Voluntary opportunities?
Again, related to the above point.
Advice?

I've never even been to the states before so this is huge for me....
(I came from a small town where everybody knew everybody else - preparing for major culture shock!)
