What is your "win over omnis" meal?

What do you cook when you're cooking for omnis who aren't sure about vegan food? :)

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, or is already a thread somewhere, I'm not here very often...

Lasagne. Or some sort of cake.

Indian food. Usually dhal, channa masala, saag aloo and aloo gobi served with mushroom rice.

I think Indian food works well with omnis. There's a good chance they'll have had at least one of the above at an Indian restaurant and enjoyed it.

It depends what sort of things they like but I try to include roast potatoes where possible :)

Officially hungry now!
Mine is through baking - they can't believe you can even make a cake without eggs. My omni OH enjoyed a root lentil casserole I made - said it was one of the best things he had tasted. Can't get a better praise than that really!

Indian Food here as well - but also soups!! I love soups and if you put in the right ingredients they have a very meaty taste to it so my OH doesn't feel deprived - and a wholemal role with some nice olive spread..yummy!

I also love Avocado sandwiches!! (I'm quite simple, really :-) )

Things involving pastry, or shepherd's pie made with veg and lentils (not fake mince, which tends to arouse omnis' suspicions in my experience!).

I haven't turned anyone vegan by any means, but I have made plenty of vegan food that changed some omnivore opinions of vegan food. Chocolate chip cookies with maple syrup, coconut bread, homemade fresh coconut milk, roasted chickpeas with spices, homemade roasted red pepper hummus, pot pies, vegan coleslaw with tahini dressing are a few that come to mind.

definitely cupcakes.

I find that non-vegans are pretty receptive to cake, they always like it even if they think they won't!

yes blueberries! this is always true. i also like to show them that being vegan doesn't mean you have the crap version of "real" food.

Linda McCartney pies with steamed veg and onion gravy. Actually that's basically my favourite meal anyway!

Ethnic is definitely the way to go; not one single dish but a menu.
Middle Eastern when I am in Asia -hummous babbaghanough tabbouli etc- and Chinese when back in California -cut corn with pinenut and green chili, greens with shitake, Sichuan potato shreds, fish-fragrant eggplant and maybe dumplings too.

The wow comes from look-how-much-you-can-eat-without-getting-fat :satisfied:

Did wow my daughter's tutor with tacos at lunch before lesson -papas verde and frijole picante- who doesn't love Mexican, really?

I always ask folks to stay, eat if they are here for any reason near mealtimes: conversion is the goal but one less critter eaten ain't bad either

All such good ideas, thanks everyone!

I also find that vegan desserts and baking does tend to sway people a little, convince them we don't just eat lettuce! Haha :)

Cake of some description has got to be the way to go.

Being the worlds worst baker, this doesn't help me much. Therefore usually turn to a pretty serious stir-fry or stew......of sorts.

Last week we went to an omni dinner party and offered to bring enough food for us, and to share.

We made tagliatelle tossed in truffle oil, topped with a cherry tomato and roasted garlic sauce, topped with breaded fried aubergine, topped with a cashew cream 'cheese' sauce, topped with fresh chopped parsley (kind of a big yummy tower). I braised some green veg for the side. The ones who tried it absolutely loved it.

For dessert I made a cherry pie, and for a starter we had hummous, my homemade red pepper and walnut dip, olive oil and cracked pepper crostinis, olives and vegetable antipasti.

Their meal looked pretty boring in comparison ;)

Definately a lovely veggie curry with some chocolate cupcakes to finish it off - actually the cupcakes could do it by themselves.. :)
