I just had some miso soup that was left in the cupboard..thinking it was fully vegan I indulged in it. but I thought it tasted a bit fishy (literally)..at first I thought it was the seaweed..but then I looked at the packaging and OH NO!! It contains fish (bonito powder)...

That's a real shame because I like Miso soup. I used Blue Dragon but the shop where I buy it from also sells other brands, in jars. Now does Miso soup ALWAYS contain fish or should I check those other brands?

Has anyone got a recommendation?

I buy miso paste (refrigerated) and make my own miso soup. It's easy.

Miso paste should always be vegan as far as I know, it's just fermented soybeans, salt and mould isn't it? It's the adding of dashi which makes miso soup un-vegan.

This thread has made me want miso soup!

Clearspring does a box of 4 packets of 'instant' miso. You put it in a bowl and pour a cup of hot water over it. It has the vegan society logo on the side and is delicious!

This is it: http://www.goodnessdirect.co.uk/cgi-local/frameset/detail/403446_Clearspring_Organic_Instant_Miso_Soup_4_ser vings_.html
