Today a coworker of my husband's walked up and had the nerve to question whether me not giving our children cow's milk is healthy....she happened to hear I am vegan via facebook she said. It really irritates me when people get into my business, and my children's diet is my business. I am an AMAZING mother, and I do sooo much research trying to make sure all 4 of them get everything they need. What an uneducated thing to state. And since my husband is an omnivore it didn't bother him as much as it did me when he came home and told me about it. Has anyone else had issues with situations like these? I am not even sure why I got so angry completely, she is ignorant.

Heya BT, I'm not a parent myself but I suspect that people have a strong emotional knee-jerk response when their parenting is brought into question. That co-worker probably thought they were asking an innocent question, considering how omnipresent the idea of cow's milk being necessary for growth/bones/calcium etc is :/. I admire the fact that you are bringing your children up vegan and by the sounds of it you're doinga great job! :D

Oh, yes!

Got accused of 'child abuse' for 'depriving' our children of meat on more than one occasion in the past.

I find it helpfull to look at this way Bella ..

If we have the good sense not to get angry with dogs for barking, or with cats for climbing trees; Then what sense is there in getting angry with 'underinformed' people for saying underinformed things?

That does sound irritating. People say stuff without thinking, but I suppose sometimes they are genuinely curious. To look on the bright side, let's hope she's a bit better informed as a result of your conversation, Tanya.

I didn't actually speak with her harpy, she just walked up to my husband at work....I am sure probably with a payroll question because that's what he does, then somehow managed to make comments about me being vegan. She asked my husband if he had become vegan, because she has known him for a long time, he said he was not, and then she started in with all that other stuff. I am thinking she probably just didn't know what she was talking about, I just get a bit touchy when it comes to my parenting I guess lol
