Soy Risks?

Hi all, I'm a new Vegan, and new to the forum, and I have a question about the safety of soy. I wonder if anyone could comment with sources as to the safety of soy? My wife's friend has been scaring my wife about soy recently, telling her it's, in her research, almost as dangerous as eating meat and dairy in the long run.
