I'm hosting Thanksgiving for my sister and her family this year. She is gluten free and we are vegan. I'd like to make most ( if not all) the food to accommodate both diets. Since this means seitan and tofurky are out, what would be a good main dish?

Maybe some kind of nut roast, which is a traditional vegan and vegetarian celebration dish in the UK - not sure if it is there? Some of them have breadcrumbs in but not all, e.g. https://www.vegansociety.com/resources/recipes/gluten-free/vegetable-nut-loaf-gluten-free

I see that has Marmite in it which you probably wouldn't have, but I imagine you could use a dash of something like Braggs instead - it's just to give it a savoury flavour.

How about a gluten free vegan shephards pie? I have done this for my Mom (who is gluten free) using polenta as the crust and top. Some other ideas you could google for specific recipes:

chana masala over millet or brown rice

Red lentil dahl over brown rice

chili in the crockpot (with kidney beans, black beans, pintos, tomatoes, canned tomato paste, mushrooms, onion, bell peppers, zucchini, garlic, spices, quinoa etc)

cornbread: here is a pure cornmeal cornbread recipe I use but veganize it by using egg replacer or cornstarch in place of the eggs, maple syrup in place of the honey, plant milk in place of dairy, and coconut oil or plant margarine in place of the butter: http://www.plantoeat.com/blog/2012/06/100-cornmeal-cornbread-gluten-free/
Another gluten free vegan cornbread recipe I have had success with: http://glutenfreegoddess.blogspot.com/2007/12/skillet-cornbread-with-green-chiles.html

mashed sweet potato with either coconut milk (from can) or with pineapple; both versions are awesome

Here is a crockpot soup recipe I love to make that is fantastic (I also add red lentils to up the nutrients): http://www.all-creatures.org/recipes/soup-cabbage-potato-sauerkraut.html

Succatosh

High protein mashed potatoes:

And dessert:

GF vegan apple pie tart: http://ahouseinthehills.com/2013/02/04/apple-tart-vegan-gluten-free/

Chocolate peanut butter fudge: http://vegweb.com/recipes/new-improved-smooth-chocolate-peanut-butter-fudge

Peach crisp: http://glutenfreegoddess.blogspot.com/2007/07/peach-crisp.html

Cashew Cream tart: http://www.theconsciousdietitian.com/all-recipes/raw-fruit-tart-with-cashew-cream-and-seasonal-fruit/

A nice garden salad with a tahini based homemade dressing or homemade vinaigrette would be a nice way to round out your meal also.
