Today:
B: two grapefruit
L: luna bar, large coffee
D: my regular stirfry w/ carrots, bok choy, sprouts, tomato, squash, broccoli, waterchesnut, mushrooms, edamame and orange ginger sauce

hmmm... the orange ginger sauce tastes a little lemon-y. I think I'll go back to the ginger soy or mango chili next time.

Oh and I'm planning on having a banana or mango later. I don't think I've gone a day without either in a while!

Yes, it is a day of Fast & Abstinence in the Catholic faith.

I know that. People do this here as well. Though not all Catholics and nobody is legally obliged, are they?

busy91
Feb 6th, 2008, 06:56 PM
No it is not a legal obligation, just a religious one. :)

is it really that common in the US? Most people in Germany are Catholics and I also know a bunch of very traditional Irish Catholics and nobody's fasting today.

Do you have a time difference btween Germany and NYC? Maybe it is not the day for you there. I know someone who did it yesterday and I am in Australia

It's Ash Wednesday here as well. But nobody fasts. It's a tradition for sure, but maybe 1 out of 1000 people actually does it.

Possibly depends where in Germany you're from? I'm from the South, so veeeery Catholic territory, and many of my friends are fasting today.
I'm not though, religion's not for me ;)

Today I had:

coffee + rice milk (hazelnut-almond flavour)
porridge oats, banana + rice milk

carrot, celeriac + apple salad
seeded bread + hummus

pasta with tomatoes, olives, capers, chili + basil

I don't think a lot of Catholics here do it. Many members of my church do it. It isn't a total fast anyway, it is 2 small meals and one big one, so we still eat, just not a lot. Not that vegans eat much anyway.
