visited chicago diner today :) I had vegan chicken parm with a side of mac n "cheeze".
The Chicago Diner is one of my favorite places in the world (I have only been to a couple of completely vegetarian restaurants though, but still, it is awesome. My boyfriend got that last spring break when we were there. I had the Philli Cheesesteak and one other time I was up there I had a mushroom ceaser wrap thing with seitan in it...so good...
Anyway, this is what I ate today:
one and a half pitas filled with leftover scrambled tofu
about a cup of red grapes
luna bar
coffee with sugar
vegan pad thai (microwavable thing from trader joe's)
an apple
cup of calcium fortified oj
some dried mango slices

I've had a terrible food day :(
I was on a training course and I told them well in advance I was vegan and offered to bring my own food. They insisted they could cater for me and so I offered a few suggestions and also emailed the link to the Vegan Society list of non-vegan ingredients. I even said the catering staff could call my mobile if they wanted to check anything with me.
So at home I eat my breakfast banana - I don't actually like having bananas for breakfast, but never mind, there's the rest of the day to go.
Snack: Er... banana. Despite me letting them know some vegan biccies that would be ok at tea breaks, there are none in the tea break room. The omnis tuck into their biscuit packs while I return to my car and sit in it eating the spare banana I packed "just in case". Billy No Mates :(
Lunch: Things start to look up! Lots of dishes with a "V" card next to them. I have some undressed salad (yuck, but at least they've made the effort), some new potatoes with a mint dressing, and some veg-in-breadcrumbs. I'm thinking I must find what brand the latter are, as my OH would prob eat them. On the second veg-in-breadcrumbs, I realise there is egg binding the breadcrumbs together. I can taste it :( Repulsive. Oh well, maybe they've made a mistake. I start on the potatoes instead. Hmmm, the dressing is a bit salty for oil. Oh actually that would be because it's BUTTER and mint, not oil and mint. I finish the undressed salad which is bitter and unpleasant. The apples in the fruit bowl for dessert are polished (shellac most likely) which I notice after eating a quarter of one. I'm really hungry and not too happy. I have another banana, my third of the day.
Snack: I go back to my car and eat the emergency vegan choc chip cookie I was keeping for... well, emergencies. I think this counts.
Dinner: Nothing yet. Too stressed, feel sick from the food and really annoyed. I'll be taking my own lunch tomorrow (bento) and a whole pack of vegan choc chip cookies. Definitely no bananas under any circumstances!

Oh dear, Est :( that's so annoying. I'm sorry it was such a crap day food wise for you. You'll have to give them feedback! I had a similar thing wth a training day last year, where I was offered a slice of lettuce between two slices of dry bread. Mmmm... filling! You should try and get some dinner in you though, despite how annoyed you are. Keep them energy levels up for the ranting email back to them tomorrow ;)

food bloggers rock. how about adding pictures?
I'm thinking about it, especially when I make something really yummy. I'm making my way through Vegan with a Vengeance and La Dolce Vegan cookbooks right now, and my housemates are pretty excited about it! :D
