Do you find you're getting enough with that, JC? Or are your portions of each thing massive?

JC

well generally i'll have a bowl-size of whatever. and i have things like herbal tea and water throughout the day too. i guess i'm a junk food vegan, lol, so i'm making up for the fact that i get more calories in what i eat than i would if i ate a big portion of salad, if that makes sense?

I take it you liked it? What do you think?

oh yeah, it was lush!!! it's a much better consistency than when you make it with arborio rice, and it tasted better too. AND it's really cheap to make, all you need is the pearl barley, vegetable stock, mushrooms, onions and salt & pepper and you're away! :D

Glad you liked it. I prefer it with pearl barley as well. My flatmates in Italy would never cook a risotto with rice, always with pearl barley, although it's frowned upon in some regions as peasant food. They just don't know what they're missing out on ;)

Went to a baby naming ceremony today which had a buffet afterwards. I was genuinely shocked by the food - EVERYTHING had meat in it. Most of the plates were just piles of sweaty-fatty looking sausages and chicken wings. There were no salads, not even any plain bread. I ate a small amount of lettuce which was only there as decoration for a quiche. Very glad I had my usual emergency stash of oat cakes and a banana in my bag!

Off now to make a nice chunky vegetable lasagne with fake mozerella cheese. Mmmmmm....

So now that I'm back to proper eating habbits (some of you know my recent problems), I'm having 6 good, healthy, calorie counted, controlled eating days per week and one blow out cheat day. This works for me and I like it. If I'm good all week, I can have a day of indulgence as a treat!

Today was blow out cheat day:

1 cup of coffee with vanilla soy milk.
4 squares of rice milk chocolate.

1 bottle of iced jasmine green tea.
1 Chinese donut.

1 sticky rice roll (black rice and white rice stuffed with chinese mushroom, marinated bean curd, bean curd with vegetables and a piece of Chinese donut).
1 iced passionfruit tea.

2 veggie spring rolls.

Soon I'm going to have another sticky rice roll and there's a half a chinese donut there for if I feel like it.
