I heard from another vegan community, that these brands of cereal are not vegan since they contain animal drived D vitamins! My Shredded Wheat cereal I eat some mornings is made by General Mills! Is Kellogs the same? I really like Frosted Flakes too. :(

This is horrible. Does anyone know of this? How rampant is animal derived D vitamins in breakfast cereals/other packaged foods?

This is so unsettling. All this time, munching on my Post and General Mills cereals, reading the ingredients and not finding anything unvegan about them. I feel quite upset, as you may imagine. :(

For anyone in the UK, you can find a list of whats vegan from Kellogg's by clicking here (http://www.kelloggs.co.uk/products/), clicking on Special dietary needs and going to page 4. It does say on there that if vitamin D is added it is derived from sheeps wool.

I'm aware of that pesky vitamn d ingrediant

It probably is from milk or something :<

None of my cereals I have contain vitamin D. It has 0% in the nutriontional value, and it's not mentioned in the ingredients. So does that mean I'm "safe"? It does have this odd ingredient, d-calcium something. Hmm....

Maybe the vitamin D thing is only in the UK?

I think I'm going to switch to Kashi cereals anyway. I have a bunch of coupons for them, so why not try?

WAAAHHHHH!!!

I'm sooo mega happy!!!

I had suspected that Coco Pops Cruncher (my favourite cereal) were vegan, so I emailed them. And again. And again. And haven't heard anything, and I work during the week so couldnt phone them.

I'm so happy I can eat it!!!!

Corn Pops

I used to LOVE corn pops, but I thought they had vit. D in them.

Why not buy wholesome, vegan cereal from natural and organic stores? Brands like Nature’s Path, and Peace cereal?

I am not sure if they do or not, but they have a whole lot of genetically modified corn in them, that’s for sure. Also, if anyone eats Quaker Oats brand hot and cold cereals, they use honey in their natural flavors.

the vitamin D is from lanolin, sheep's wool, and it is the same in the US. But, if the cereal doesn't even list vitamin D as an additive then you are safe.

There are organic peanut butter corn pops called "Panda Puffs". They are gooooood and way nicer than Kellogs corn pops! :D

That's high. I don't think I've ever seen a box of cereal go for 6 bucks. Four something at the most. That is not fair that vegan cereal is sold for over 6 dollars. Why not write an e-mail to Nature's Path and tell them the stores near you are selling their cereal for so much over their suggested retail rate of (I believe) $3.99 per box?

Out here, there is always one of the vegan brands of cereal on sale. I was able to get Nature's Path cereal at 2 for $4.00 last week.

Personally as someone wha has been food shopping for over 15 years, I have noticed there isn't much difference between non-vegan or conventional cereal brands and organic vegan brands price wise. I've seen Cheerios sell for over $3.00 a box and was priced the same as the good wholesome cereals.

What is the price difference where you live? How much cheaper are you getting conventional cereal for?

I've yet to try those. I've tried the fruity ones, and the cocoa ones made by Nature's Path and they rocked!

I don't think I've ever seen the fruity ones but I'd like to give those cocoa ones a go! :D

Overpriced vegan cereal is also here in Vancouver Tigerlily. Most organic vegan cereal costs close to $6 per box, give or take a few cents. I usually wait until they come on sale, which is often enough.

Where I live, Post Shredded Wheat is $3.39 and the same kind of cereal (and same weight) from Kashi Organic Promise is $2.93! :D

The other organic cereals (Nature's Path and other brands) are slightly more expensive than conventional cereals (range is between $3 something and $4 something)
