Hi,
I am 25yo guy in Sydney who needs to socialise!
Me and my gf are mostly vegan, (long term vegetarians who are still in need of some dietary reform, mostly cheese, ice-cream and chocolate) and of course care a lot about animals (please direct any enquiries in this respect to our incredibly spoilt house bunny).
Watch a lot of movies, play PS2, into cooking, politics, writing (particularly true crime) and crypto-history.
I'd like to hear from anyone who's interested in chatting on-line/exchanging e-mails and perhaps meeting if you're in the city.

Kurt

Getting involved with some animal groups is a great way to meet other vego's. Details of upcoming events can be heard on 2RRR FM between 1-2pm on the first saturday of the month, a programme called "open your eyes" hosted by the gorgeous danielle which is possibly the only animal rights radio program in australia. There will be details of the vegetarian network's events broadcast as well.

Hi Cal, :)

Totally agree with you. I have not eaten eggs for a very long time, the very thought makes me feel sick and switched to soy milk quite a while ago. Have been cruelty free in consumerism for a long time too.
That is more than most people's definitions of what constitutes a vegetarian.
I am glad to have found this forum to get more info and hopefully communicate with like-minded people.
I am fairly proficient in vegan baking and cooking. Pretty much need to learn to make my own vegan cheese chocolate and ice-cream (can you actually make chocolate yourself?)
Searching for recipes etc.

Cheese and chocolate were my last vices too, but you can get vegan chocolate at any biggish supermarket in sydeny: coles, woolworths etc. It's called sweet william and is in the health food section. Sanitarium make vegan ice cream (so good) and there's another one called fruccio which is kinda vegan (may contain dairy warning on label) for some a may contain warning is not vegan but for others it's ok. This particualr product is made in a dairy factory so it's more likely than most products to have milk in it by accident.

Go to the green gourmet shop (next door to restaurant near cnr Missendon Rd, not sure of real name of shop) in King St Newtown, they sell vegan ice creams by a brand called tofutti which are de-fkn-licious. They also sell lots of other vegan frozen goods and the restaurant is great too, however was only open for dinner when I was last in Sydney.

Tofutti also make vegan cheese, but I don't like it. There is a brand called King Land that make a fantastic vegan cheese, and also soy yoghurts that are bloody yummy.

Check the recipes section of the forum, if what you want is not there, ask for it!!! Also try http://www.veganchef.com/recipes.htm
Basically if you go vegan and eat no cheese or chocolate for 1 month, you won't notice as much of a difference when you take on the vegan alternatives. The bottom line is you are still supporting the slaughter of cattle if you eat anything with milk in it... they kill the male calves and implant steroids in the heifers to make them produce milk year round.
