hey, i'm tired of people saying veganism won't do anything, so does anybody have some numbers that i can use to validate veganism's affect on the animal industries? if not do you know where there would be some?

93 lives per year saved by each and every vegan.
This is a puond by pound estimate.

'A typical European meat eater will devour 760 chickens, 20 pigs, 29 sheep, five cows and half a trawler-net of fish in a lifetime'. ( http://www.veganforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1512)

Based on these numbers, if there are 6 billion people in the world, and even if only 0.3% of these people would be vegans, and they are vegan only half of their lives, they'll still save:

1,368,000,000 chicken
36,000,000 pigs
52,200,000 sheep
9,000,000 cows
900,000 trawler-net of fish

Here's (http://www.imaner.net/panel/statistics.htm) a statistics source of the number of vegans. ;)

Nice one Mozzer.

Wow - 250,000 vegans in Britain. That's more than I would have thought. Not bad at all.

those numbers apply to each generation right?

Does anyone know if the rise in the number of vegans is just because of the rise in population? EG say 99.7% of people are meat-eaters, even if next year there are individually more vegans, is the percentage of the population still the same; 0.3%? That's poopie if that is the case, I am hoping that the percentage of vegans is rising.

Right there are more vegans over time but sadly proportionately even more flesh fanciers also. More flesh being consumed than ever per person, not just due to overall population totals.

That is very sad. :( I actually thought people were eating less flesh these days......but I guess I need to look outside of my own circle.

Yep even in the home of veganism. There are temporary dropoffs in beef sales for example when there's a BSE story around and I think pig flesh sales dropped recently too but overall flesh consumption doesn't and you have to factor in imports. i.e. the masses eat the "healthy white meats" like fish/chicken/turkey or lambs in greater amounts.

On Look North today it was reported that there's potentially risk of another foot and mouth outbreak due to lack of funds to pay for officers to do the checks! They said it will take 3years before the number of officers needed to provide checks can be financed.

Wow!!

Though it saddens me that that tearotically would only be 0.03 % of the animals slaughtered! That means 3300 times the numbers you showed are slaughtered!! (round about, its almost 12 oclock and Im tired.)

wait, if my calculations are correct, then...
1,368,000,000 chicken * 3300
+36,000,000 pigs * 3300
+52,200,000 sheep * 3300
+9,000,000 cows * 3300
+900,000 trawler-net of fish * 3300
= ick!!!

I don't know what happened to Dolly. I am going to take precautions, I have the scientists working on the tube technology.
