This is my new favorite site, everthing I have tried from here is great. And the omnis can't even tell they are vegan!

The site says vegetarian, but everything is vegan.

http://www.compassionatecooks.com/index.htm

I make the Banana Chocolate Chip muffins (http://www.compassionatecooks.com/r/ccmuffins.htm) for breakfast when we have house guests. I serve it with some Earth Balance, fresh fruit and coffee w/Silk Soycreamer. My guests love them! My boyfriend does too, now I make them up at least once a week (I can't get them to come out right with more than one batch in the oven though...)

I also make The Real, the Original, the Authentic, the Veganized Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe (http://www.compassionatecooks.com/r/cookies.htm) as a snack for guests and myself. They are so yummy, and noone thinks they are anything but the orignal. Make sure you take them out of the oven when still a bit gooey and cool on racks. They crisp up nicely when cool.

and today I made the No-Fuss Pancakes (http://www.compassionatecooks.com/r/pancakes.htm) and they were awesome!

I recently started a vegan food blog that some of you might be interested in: "what do vegans eat?" at http://whatdoveganseat.blogspot.com

The blog collects pictures and simple descriptions of different vegan
foods. It can be used as a sort of idea bank, to suggest new foods to
make, order, or buy. Or it can help respond to the question often asked
to people who are vegan or try to eat vegan: "What do you eat?" Anyone
is welcome to contribute to the blog by posting examples of vegan foods.

Can anyone suggest some other good vegan-related blogs?

I can't recall where I found this, but I thought I'd share it with everyone. In fact, I might have come across it on here.. so forgive me if this has already been posted.

Over at blogspot.com, there is this vegan stay-at-home mom who makes lunches for her little boy everyday, which are always creative, cute, and come in a very spiffy lunchbox; she takes pictures of the meal and describes its content and posts it on her blog everyday. She even has a recipe section for some of the items mentioned, and is working on building that up more. Anyway, it's a really neat idea and I love looking at the stuff she puts together. Plus, it gives me ideas for my own food. I wish I had a mom like her :-)

Hi Wanda!

You're right, your site DOES contain a lot of good recipes! :) They all look so yummy!

I had a question for anyone who might know...

in this recipe, it calls for arrowroot powder...

Divine Cashew Mushroom Gravy
yields 2-3 cups
Ingredients:
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 small onions, diced
2 C. mushrooms, sliced
2 C. water
3 T. nutritional yeast
1 t. garlic powder
1 t. onion powder
3 1/2 T. cashew butter
2 T. tamari or substitute
1/2 t. sea salt
1 T. arrowroot powder

Do you think it would be okay to change the arrowroot to cornstarch?
I've never used arrowroot powder, so I'm not too sure what it's purpose is exactly...

I was at a cookery demo recently and this question came up - arrowroot is a thickener, like cornstarch, but apparently it has a "lighter" texture. You can probably substitute cornstarch no problem, I would think arrowroot just makes it a bit fancier :)

in experiences of arrowroot, it's like cornstarch but doesn't make the liquid go as cloudy/white so is more preferable where colour is important, such as this case - gravy. Personally I dislike it, it just makes liquid an odd consistancy compared to corn flour and while i wouldn't rule it out ever in the future, it's on my avoid list for now :)

I just added Double Fudge Pecan Brownies last week!
I actually won a vegan brownie contest at a potluck with these.

I have some left over corn. I think I might make the corn fritter recipe that's in the breakfast section! I've only got half a tin of corn left though, so I'll split the recipe in half.

From somewhere in California, Randomgirl.com (http://www.randomgirl.com/recipes.html), has some very easy recipes, very homey. Great carrot cake, Indian eggplant, Penne alla Vodka.

And a Canadian site, Bryanna Clark Grogan (http://www.bryannaclarkgrogan.com) , who has authored a number of vegan cookbooks. She has some great ideas for holiday cooking. I am going to try her pumpkin pie and pecan pie next week.
