A new report shows Western Australians born in the past few years can expect to live several years longer than their parents. The Health Department study has found boys born in 2003 are likely to live to 78.1 years, which is five years longer than 20 years ago. Girls are expected to live to 83, which is an increase of three-and-a-half years.

The report found Western Australians are getting healthier by exercising more and eating better. Peter Somerford, from the Health Department, says it also shows smoking rates are down. "The daily smoking rate within Western Australia is actually the lowest in the nation at 15.5 per cent, which is the lowest that it's ever been," he said.

We don't seem to hear much from WA, except about their sheep exports!
