Dear Friends

I wish to ask for your assistance.

Bens Chinese restaurant in Woolloongabba Brisbane has as
decoration, a small gold fish bowl at it's reception desk.
It had one gold fish in a very small glass bowl, no filter,
or aeration devices, no real plants. I'm sure you get the idea.

Anyway, I recently wrote them letting them know
that in Rome, Italy, they have banned these gold fish bowls
because they see them as cruel due to the fact they
are small with insufficient oxygen. Bens Chinese restaurant
never replied to me.

Yesterday I went to their restaurant and the gold fish was
still alive, however as usual I saw it coming to the top often
trying to gasp for air, but of course fish need aeration in the
water.

Sadly today I went there and the gold fish was laying dead on
the bottom of the bowl. I pointed out to the receptionist that
it was dead and why this probably happened, but I'm not
sure they understood or listened and I feel they may just go
ahead and get yet another poor solitary gold fish. I called
later to speak with the Manager Mrs Trang, but she was
not at the restaurant today. She will be in tomorrow Friday
23rd.

Could you please write or call this restaurant as soon as possible
and request that they do not replace the goldfish who died with yet another solitary gold fish or any kind of fish for this bowl.
There is also no room for a larger real aquarium at the reception
desk either.

Here is their address and contact number:

Manager - Mrs Trang
Bens Restaurant
1st Floor, 14 Annerly Road
Woolloongabba QLD 4120
Phone: (07) 3391 3233
Fax: (07) 3391 0808

I would be very grateful. It would sadden me to see yet
another poor fish gasping at the surface for air.

Thank you

Wouldn't this be a matter for the RSPCA?

Well it should be a matter for the RSPCA, but they are not that interested in fish. Fish to most of the public are not an issue. Most people dont even consider fish feel pain sadly. The RSPCA seem more interested in companion animals and obvious acts of cruelty. It has taken them ages to even act on any factory farming cruelty. I have written to the RSPCA on a number of occassions and they never reply.
