That's horrible. I hope their efforts to keep the animals in captivity and force-feed them fail. :(

Nearly all of us were 'omnis' once. I dread to think what I ate whilst serving with the RAF in Malaya and Singapore and I can remember eating whale and horse flesh when I was a kid. And I remember my Nana skinning rabbits and making mittens for me out of their skins.
For some reason, and at some stage in our lives, we here have realised what we were doing and changed course. I hope that eventually everyone else will too, even if not in this lifetime.

Not to mention coffee from beans eaten by a cat and excreted!
I'm not kidding. It's real, although sounds like an urban legend.

Yes, that's gross! But technically, if the cats are in the wild and in no way manipulated by humans, I'd say this falls under the weird category of "an animal product or byproduct that is oddly vegan". Empty sea shells, washed up on the beach, also fall into this odd category for me. Anyone disagree? As long as no animal is killed, harmed, or manipulated by any humans in any way, I think it is OK to collect or...er....consume.
Also, speaking of gross, I think there's some shampoo ingredient made from some animals' placenta. I have no idea how it is obtained, though.

Personally, as a part of my vegan lifestyle, I adhere to a vegan diet for the animals but also because I think it is healthier for me. Not that all of my habits are healthy :o . But I wouldn't knowingly consume an animal by-product just because the animal wasn't harmed or manipulated.
I like your avatar. I use to use one just like it (or very similar). I'm thinking about changing mine again...hmmm... <--me thinking about a new avatar

you're right, i mixed it up with sperm whale, which is a type of whale. still though, it's gross to wash yourself with ANIMAL FAT! WTF!I'll bet if you told them it was an aphrodisiac they would rub whale sperm on themselves.
Even if they don't believe in animal rights, how do they not find it disgusting that they are washing themselves with things like whale sperm??? eeewwwwww!

Got this gem from my dad the other day:
"I was watching TV yesterday, and I saw part of a documentary where they showed what they do to pigs on pig farms. So I said, 'No more pork for me!'. Until this morning when I had bacon and eggs."

Every Wednesday at my school someone brings snacks for the 12th grade, and this one girl (who knows perfectly well that I'm vegan and one time even said it was "really cool") brought clearly non-vegan brownies. I was sitting at a table with her and some of my friends; they were all eating a brownie but I wasn't. All of a sudden she says "do you want one, marina??" Wtf?? She expects me to give up my morals just like that?? Just because I'm sitting with a group of people eating cow pus and chicken periods?? Gah, stupid b*tch. I'm probably going overboard, but that just pissed me off.
i know what you mean satirecafe, i've had many people make similar comments. your story reminds me of an unrelated story...i was at a meeting one time and pizza had been ordered for the meeting. one guy, who knew that i was vegan, noticed that i was not eating anything and said, "oh, that's right, you can't even eat pizza. that's so sad." because the meeting was getting started, i couldn't really explain that it wasn't sad because i can eat vegan pizza or make some comment that what is sad is that he doesn't understand my values (even if he doesn't agree with them).

Thanks.. I think it runs in my family. Get this..
my mom is in nursing school and I have taught her so much about nutrition, so she really gets on peoples nerves. Here is what happened:
My mom: I don't drink milk. I never really have liked it.
Fellow student: OMG! YOU DONT DRINK MILK! We need milk. You know we need milk right?
My mom: Do you believe in God?
Fellow student: Yes.
My mom: Don't you believe that God meets all your needs?
Fellow student: Yes..
My mom: Dont you think that if you needed milk you would still be sucking on your moms breasts??!
Fellow student: Well, I think Adam and Eve drank milk.
My mom: No, they didn't. They were fruitarians, you're forgetting I have a daughter who is vegan.. I've been taught well.
Fellow student: They drank milk, God just didnt know it..
My mom: So, why didn't they get away with eating from that one specific tree?????????????
The teacher (who actually does have osteoporsis) walks in and says: Girls, stop it, we need milk for calcium and you both know it. If we didn't drink milk we would all eventually get osteoporosis.
My mom: Yeah, I know, I read somewhere in the Bible that, that is exactly how Adam and Eve died... Deprivation of cows breast milk.

Maybe your mother could go and complain to someone higher up about the teacher's incompetence and inaccuracy? I think that would be totally appropriate since she is being so dogmatic and out of date on current knowledge about needing milk. As a teacher she has no right to state such rubbish as if it is fact rather than her personal opinion!!
I never experienced anything quite like this when I did nurse training, no-one told me directly like this that I needed milk, but I was forced out within a few months largely because of anti-vegan prejudice (lots of the other nurses were farmers' daughters and gave me a really bad time for being into AR). The bullying was harder to prove though, and mainly consisted of bad reports I did not deserve and were not accurate (from anti-vegan nurses in positions above me). This was in the 1980s, I truly hope it is getting better now, in the UK and the US and everywhere. I was in North Wales, near Rhyl and Wrexham, very much near to farming areas.

Maybe you should ask your husband's aunt, "Did God make humans for great white sharks to eat?"

That is funny! Not too much gets me really p*ssed anymore about dumb stuff non vegans will say to justify meat eating. The one thing that gets me is the God comments.
Did God mean for humans to tortue and abuse animals for food?

Hmmmmm.....The Native Americans didn't have domestic cows, and they weren't riddled with osteoperosis. They were taller, healthier and stronger than most of the European colonists at the time of the first contact.
And I assume that the teacher must drink milk, if she believes that it's so important in preventing osteoperosis-so why the heck does she have it?????

Haha, totally Hollybee. I don't even think they ever drank cow's milk! (Maybe buffalo milk, though?)

If they ever attempted to milk buffalo, I have even more respect for them! This is off-topic, but I have almost finished a fantastic book called "1491" which is about the cultures of the Americas before Columbus. They were incredibly advanced. I highly recommend it.
