That's true. Salty+crunchy. It's like (salted) peanuts made of animal protein.

No The Wellcome Trust.

I jsut saw on their website they do stuff with animal tests. I dont give a fuck how wodnerful they are, or other crap they might do. I think Wellcome is some drug company or something?
This relative knows i am vegan.......
She seems to think vivisection is OK

They are affliated with Glaxo so they do actually suck big hairy vivsection arses! There is a massive Glaxo research facility near us - massive local employer and even has a day clinic at the local hospital. Tell your family HELL NO!

the bacon issue is really strange, isn't it?!

What I heard from all ex-veggies  is that bacon was the first meat product they ate after deciding to go omni again.

Ex-veggies  Yeah i have heard that said before, so annoying isnt it.

I really don't get it at all! I think it smells like pig carcus being burnt cuz in reality that is what it is. Cheating bacon is far better is every single way.

I never liked bacon - it was far too salty and made me think of cannibalism as pigs are so like humans.

Seafood is my achilles heel so I just think of all the filth and pollution in the sea now and that puts me off.

I once saw a sign in a butchers shop window;
"All our meat is vegetarian, they eat the green, green grass" uughh.
re: the bacon thing..
I wonder if many people here really did like meat before they went vegan or if they havent all along? methinks I may start a thread on that ...

I loved the taste of meat. I don't know if I would like it now though. Being Vegan is a ethical choice not a taste preference for me...I kinda think that makes it a wee bit more admirable because I am denying myself something that I enjoyed to improve the world and the lives of others.

but thats just me.

I've been veggie since I was fourteen and vegan for about a year and 9months. When I was veggie I did eat meat again when I was a little bit drunk one night - it tasted like....no wait it felt like I had just eaten pure shit and like little parts of me were dying. I was a BIG meateater before I went veggie....dunno whether I liked it as much as I like vegetables but then that's all brainwashing and what you are used to me thinks.

Silly thing that I just overheard from the second fattest guy at work:

Fat Guy: " I don't like all that flora stuff it tastes like shit. Give me butter anyday!"

Guy: Yeh but butter makes you fat so I eat Flora.

FAT GUY: Butter hasn't got any saturated fat in it and is really good for you

ME: You guys are fucking shitting me right?

Today at a cafe I ordered a soy cappacino. My partner ordered a latte and the woman behind the counter said "Now you don't want soy in your coffee do you?" In a 'your not a silly as her surely' voice with a sigh as though I had put her to so much trouble or something.

My reply would have been - after recieving my coffee - "I hope it wasn't too much trouble to do the job you get paid for?!?"

Has anyone heard this one? Apparently it's impossible to be a vegan unless you grow all your own food, on the basis that shop bought produce might have been fertilised with blood, fish and bone.

Hahahaha! I've not heard that one before!

Here's another one I hadn't heard before.

Unfortunately I got it second hand so I can't discus it with the original utterer. Apparently veganism is an "unsustainable regime anyway that's subsidised by the normals out there".

I've heard the organic one a lot of times, especially from eco-aware people.

The last one doesn't make any sense ?_?

A guy who works with my husband actually came up to him today as he was eating a piece of vegan lasagna I made for him to take to work. The guy says "What the hell is that?" and my husband said "It's lasagna" and the guy asked him why he doesn't eat what everyone else eats (they have a buffett of food set up for everyone but all he can eat from that is the fruit and oatmeal). He told him politely that he chooses to eat no meat or dairy. The guy says "so you're a vegetarian?" and my husband said "Yes, a vegan for 2 months now" and the guy said "That's so gay, you're a %$#&*" My husband just said "whatever, go eat your meat" and he said "I will" and walked away. He doesn't even know this guy! He is new! I couldn't believe it when he told me! I was floored! But he is pretty low-tempered and knows that people are close-minded and ignorant. He is prepared to deal with that, but I would have been really mad!

I think your hubby reacted well. What an awful bully that other guy was. He probably has a really small penis and needs to pick on other men to make himself feel all macho.

Hey heat13 - it's a shame you don't live in the UK because The Discrimination Act 2006 would protect your husband from abuse because veganism is seen as a philosophical belief. Most people don't know about it but I went to the vegan society for help when the work canteen chef put cream in my food on purpose and was told how to use it. The guy is now sacked and so he should be. Ofcourse 99.9% of the time I just take the abuse cuz they are dumb shits but when someone starts fucking with the way I live my life they had to pay.

good advice, emzy!

well this isn't a new one but annoying nevertheless.

when i was at the disability workshop last week, it was announced in front of the whole group "lunch is ready - there's a silver platter which is for the vegan here (*looks my way *) so please everyone leave that and help yourselves to anything else"

so the woman next me, seeing people look my way, asks if i am THE VEGAN :D. I replied that yes, i am, so she says "well, if we didn't eat animals there'd be no point to having them and they'd all die out, wouldn't they"

i just smiled and said yes - really, where do you start?

oh my goodness...
yeah, yesterday my sister informed me that cows and bees give us milk and honey. she continued to insist on this after i explained how they 'give' it to us... i could feel my face burning so i said i gave up and walked away. the cool thing was that her bf and my mom kept explaining it to her after i walked away. :)

(emzy- u rock)

Ruby Duby - my non close family (ie all my grown up sisters and their offspring and their offspring) all think I'm a nutter with this crazy vegan lark, no matter what logical explanation I wanna give them.

Thanks for saying I rock Ruby - I rock really hard most of time, at work, in the car. I'm pretty much rocking out all the time, including now
