true enough i guess but zoos are in the business of making money (including the 'charitable' ones such as those run by ZSL and I was referring to those at London zoo)
And London zoo is considered to be one of the better ones. ..

It has to be different in different places though. I mean the zoo close to my house, all the profits go into different programs. well i mean i'm sure not ALL their profits, and the caretakers make like 10 bucks an hour which isn't very much.

dag nabbit i always do. i think that the nature of a vegan is so pessimistic and distrusting for the most part...maybe cause we have seen what people are capable of...it really doesn't work with my naive, optimistic nature...

thnx bradders.

I think you're right on that, I have become much more sceptical since becoming vegan.

the other day i got asked ... "if there was a new variety of pig that was genetically modified so that it desparately wanted to be eaten, and being eaten was a fullfillment of its life wish so that not being eaten was a form of cruelty, would you eat it?"

* sigh

another question from the same person ... "if there was some sort of pond scum that was part animal and part plant and was like a single celled organism but could form itself into like a mulusc or something and move about, would you eat it?"

to which i answered ... "after you, matey"

Does that person 'have a life' or what? I might suggest they get one. Trying to come up with stupid ass questions to see if you would eat meat - that is a form of entertainment for him/her or what? You gotta love it :(

Great response, I prolly would've said, "Would you?" and wouldn't it be fun to see them say "Oh, yes, definitely!" just because they want to get me to say that I would - then I say, "Gross, you'd eat some pond scummy thing?"

When my sister was very young she found a dead spider inside a grape. For the next ten years of my life I cut almost every grape in half before eating it; the rest I peeled open.

EDIT: OH! And sometime when I was either a baby or not even born, my parents had a bag of something like Reeses peanut butter cups or something, some individually wrapped small chocolate thing, and there were maggots all over in each one of them!

I've had people ask me if I still eat chicken, fish. I don't think people asking about fish is that uncommon, but chicken? Why would I still eat chicken? My mom was a little worked up at first that the wife and I were going vegan, but I think most of it was just concern that we weren't going to get the proper nutrition. Although she almost said that I should become an activist instead of just being vegan. She said that what I was doing was sort of "lazy". Which is lazier, knowing that eating meat, eggs and dairy products is wrong, or knowing that horrible things are done to the animals and just ignoring it?

Yeah, I don't get that either about chicken. I can understand when people think vegetarians at least still eat fish because of some definitions of meat that don't count fish, but why would any vegetarian/vegan make a weird exception for chicken (or fish, too, but there's not a definition confusion with chickens)? I mean, why would someone say, "Oh, no, I could never eat a turkey but I'll gladly eat chicken!" Doesn't make sense.

I had some tard tell me, "Hitler was a vegetarian."

Does anyone else have violent thoughts when this happens? Lol. It's unhealthy mentally to talk to certain people.

I hear that all the time. The power of myth.

Hitler gets pegged with just about EVERYTHING, as long as it's convenient for the person doing the "arguing", because he's such a big, awful, - mythic - figure in recent history. I think the best approach would be to calmly explain that it's not true, because if you show that you're getting flustered, then it seems like you're just getting defensive.

one of the things that gets me is how they think that drinking an animal's milk is fine but then go eeeewww to the thought of drinking a woman's milk.
