I was an on-off vegetarian throughout my childhood, simply cos I didn't really like meat and often refused to eat it. Became a 'proper' vegetarian at the start of 2009 and made the switch to vegan on November 13 2009 :)

i think i became a real vegan in 2002, so that's over 7 seven years. if i ever become a father, my child or children will be raised vegan, guaranteed.

21 years, just before DD was born. She's been brought up vegan from birth and her big brother became vegan when he was three, at the same time as his dad and me.
I was vegetarian for 19 years beforehand, so it's good that the vegan years exceed the vegetarian ones now!:)

Been vegan for about 5 years now, was vegetarian for about 5 years before that. Becoming vegan was honestly one of the best decisions I've ever made. :)

That's awesome!!

I haven't yet reached vegan years exceeding my vegetarian years, but I have been veg*n for more than half my life! Just surpassed that milestone a few months ago. [Omni for my first 11 years, veg*n for the past 12 (4 vegan and 8 vegetarian)].

I was a vegetarian for 4 years, then became a vegan about a month and a half ago. I feel so much better and happier now.

Was vegetarian for almost 9 years, went vegan a bit more than 3 months ago. I've lost the last 10 pounds of weight I was struggling with without even trying, I feel better, and I no longer get acne. Before seeing Earthlings, I didn't think I'd ever be able to give up cheese, but the truth is it was incredibly easy to do after viewing this documentary (I knew I couldn't be part of this exploitation anymore), and cheese no longer appeals to me. :)

That's basically the same story for me. Vegetarian for four years, vegan for two months.

I didn't even know what a vegan was at age 12. Later, I thought that vegans were nuts. Milk and eggs don't hurt no one, right?

Same here. I never really planned on being a vegan at first. But early on in my vegetarianism, I tried to avoid all animal products just to see how it would go. I concluded that being vegan was much harder because there were more ingredients to look out for, and they were in everything! It made being vegetarian look so easy.

The truth is, I just didn't put very much energy into it. I didn't think milk and eggs were as bad as meat. But I did plan on eventually being vegan, like after college. I just didn't think there was any rush, and I also thought it would be easier when I was buying and preparing much of my own food. I was just making excuses.

I could have easily been vegan before now, and even if it wasn't easy, it's the right thing to do. Luckily I didn't wait as long as I planned to. I still have two more years of college to show people how fun and healthy vegans can be!

i thought being veggie was enough for far too long :(

Exactly, Gorilla! You put into words what I hadn't yet. I might consider making that my signature or something. Is that weird?
