There's an animal rights group called Sheffield Animal Friends: http://www.myspace.com/sheffieldaf . I'm not involved with them so don't know any details but it looks like they do quite a lot of stuff.

Hi, I have personally enjoyed the food at Sheffield's Felicinis Restaurant, both before and after turning Vegan. I've just dicovered they actually have a vegan menu too which appears to be adapted items from the main menu and although most seem to be 'X' minus 'Z' at the same price (!) some have different additons such as the dough balls with garlic butter which have an aubergine dip on the vegan menu.

Worth a try if you eat out with meat eaters and need a place suitable for all. I've been twice now for 2 seperate birthday meals and was relieved to discover that I didn't need to order a green salad and portion of potatoes like I did at another Italian restaurant in Sheffield not so long ago..... Apparently they couldnt' do a pizza without cheese even tho the base was fine cos it wouldn't 'hold right'?! and they couldn't possibly consider cooking a risotto without butter/cheese.....etc etc.......

Anyway http://www.felicini.co.uk/menu.asp?menuID=1

I can copy the vegan menu I have on e-mail if any one lives locally and is interested

Hi, I would have made a new thread for this but I seem to be blocked from starting new ones  Anyway...........

FREE Vegan Food Fayre in Sheffield - Sat 5th Dec- 11am- 3pm

The Quaker Meeting House (near the Cathedral), 10 St James Street, Sheffield S1 2EW.

The event will be a chance to sample a variety of delicious, cruelty-free food as well as an opportunity to check out stalls from animal charities/ethical businesses/campaigning organisations and help support their work. Organised by Sheffield Animal Friends with the support of Animal Aid, the day will be a great chance to meet and socialise with other vegans from Sheffield and the surrounding area. Also if you know of any potential vegan converts that live in these parts, please let them know about this event!

Cheers

Hi genisis, that's a shame you read my post to late and couldn't come :( Not to rub it in but if you'd like to see what it was like please go to www.myspace.com/sheffieldaf (http://www.myspace.com/sheffieldaf) and click on the 'view my pics' under the main photo on the top left. It was a real success, lots of people came and we got a lot of positive responses about the food and great atmosphere! Out of all the questionaires that we got back only two of the respondents said visiting would have no affect on their diets, all the others would reduce meat intake, go veggie or go vegan.

If you'd like to be kept up to date with Sheffield Animal Friends activities you can check the myspace or if you'd like to be added to our mailout list please contact me or email sheffieldanimalfriends@gmail.com. We aim to make the food fayre an annual event and hope it will grow and get bigger each time, who knows you might be helping us with it next year! :D

Hello Sheffield friends...

I'm going on a course in Sheffield in May - where would you recommend me to take my three (omni) colleagues for a nice dinner the night before? Is Kumquat Mae still the talk of the town?

Cheers for any info, m'dears.

Hi Ruby Rose :)
there are loads of places in town center you could go,plenty of chinese buffet's that do good veggy options also nando's (if you can cope with all the dead chickens everyone else eating :() their veg burger is vegan if you ask for no mayo on it and the Fat Cat pub do at least one vegan meal on their menu :D

Thanks Genesis - I had hoped there might be somewhere a bit more restaurant-y than pub-y, though. Where would you go for a more restauranty meal?

Candytown Chinese restaurant on London Rd (opposite Waitrose) is ok for veggies + vegans. Not much choice for us but you do get large helpings.

Sheffield isn't great for vegan food, but the Blue Moon is pretty good. It's a vegetarian cafe by the Cathedral, in a nice building and open til 8 (I think).

In the city centre there's also East One Noodle Bar, Las Iguanas, Pizza Express, Sheiks (Lebanese - Glossop Road), Showroom (cafe bar attached to the Showroom cinema), Wagamama, Butler's balti house (Broad Lane, nr the University). There's a veg*n/fish restaurant called The Bohemian a bit further out. If your course is at the university (of Sheffield) the Interval bar in the students' union has vegan options and is quite a nice place for a meal. Apart from the Blue Moon cafe there isn't much that's exclusively vegetarian, but not hard to find omni restaurants with vegan options.

Wow! Loads of choice! Thanks, derwenna. I love Lebanese food, so I'll check that out first - and we're going to be at the Hilton hotel, so Glossop Road is (I think) quite handy.

A mention to Gyaltsabje Buddhist centre at Hunters Bar, the cafe is called world peace cafe and has only veggie and vegan meals, no meat. And Heeley city farm has a new, improved, all veggie cafe at Richards rd, tel 0114 258 0244.
The farm cafe is very good and very cheap for eating out these days
:D:satisfied:

I heard that the Bluemoon cafe is up for sale! Then today I went for lunch and had the soup and a sheffield pattie, but it didnt taste as good as usual, plus there was an advert saying 'cook wanted'. Does anyone know if its true it was for sale? has it been took over?

Main problem with blue moon is surly staff. No ones mentioned it being up for sale.
Another joint with surly staff is Endcliffe park cafe.
But they sell L McCartney sos sandwiches so its ok....
