Re: Vegan London, Part Three
That's a fair point. But to be honest, after reading the reviews on Happy Cow (http://www.happycow.net/reviews.php?id=20547), ("don't be surprised to find dairy products on your shared vegan plate for two or the occasional milk chocolate item in your dessert"), ("Smash powdered potato and dorritos"), I'm not sure I am that interested in Zilli Green reopening. There are so many better veg*n restaurants in London!

Re: Vegan London, Part Three
I hear Otarian has 'temporarily' closed in the UK also. Will we ever see it again I wonder?
Quote:
Dear London,
We are currently working to expand our eco friendly range and to improve our offerings to you. During this time of development, we shall not be functioning in UK. We realize this will come as a disappointment to all the Otarian London fans, but rest assured that we shall soon be bringing back a tastier, yummier Otarian experience that will make you forget that we were ever gone!!
You can catch up with us at our fully functioning New York stores anytime! If that's hard on your schedule, visit us at our website, FB or Twitter pages and we will keep you updated about what's going on with the Otarian way of life! Keep doing your best to save our planet, London.
We will soon be back to help you better, one delicious Otarian meal at a time!

Sorry to add to it but October Cafe has now closed too. :(

Re: Vegan London, Part Three
London is starting to sound very like Belfast. No vegan places to eat and the riots aswell. :(

Re: Vegan London, Part Three
I now wish even more that the bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games had been won by Paris...

Aww poo. :(
Leedsveg: Paris would have done a great job of hosting the Olympics, but London is still hands-down better for vegan restaurants. You can get good things there in health-food shops, but for eating out, there's no contest.
Ms. Cupcake gave away her entire stock the day after the Brixton riots, to remind people of the good things about Brixton and to support the clean-up effort. I think it's time we all went to show her the love.
-
Re: Vegan London, Part Three
^ Aye. Due a Cupcake OD anyway.
Edit: Weird! A friend has just emailed me saying 'what are you doing on Saturday? Wanna got to Ms Cupcake? Like a few mins after the above post. Strange. And obviously meant to be.....
Anyway.

Oh noes!!

Re: Vegan London, Part Three
That's a real shame about the October Cafe, they didn't last long at all! I wonder what happened?
Ms. Cupcake is obviously as sweet as her name, though :)

Re: Vegan London, Part Three
Update on Le Pain Quotidien - some current versions of their menu don't have the vegan things marked but the waitpersons seem to know what's vegan if you ask. Melanie and I asked them about this on Facebook and they said
'We are currently in the phase of redesigning our menu and we also have a range of new seasonal specials coming up, which will include additional vegan offerings on top of our current tofu salad and puy lentils evening dish. Our new menu will also display a new “carrot” symbol indication vegan options more clearly.'
So that it will be good... I do find them a useful standby when there isn't a vegan or vegetarian place nearby. They seem to be international now but I don't know whether the non-UK branches are equally vegan-friendly.

Vegan drinks coming to London!
This week, Thursday 29th @ Tibits
There are links all over the interwebz for this, but Quarrygirls blog is pretty. And nommy.
So are you coming?
-
Re: Vegan London, Part Three
Oh, I so would have been there! But I have a family commitment I really can't get out of. :( Next time! Do it again soon so I can come! :)
-
Re: Vegan London, Part Three
I shal try my best to infiltrate and ensure.
Hope you have a good time @ the family do :)
-
Re: Vegan London, Part Three
Thank you :) but I shall be with you in spirit!
On the plus side, my Mum will be making me the most awesome honeycake* ever, so fun will still be had!
* Yes, a vegan "honey" cake (without honey obviously) - sooooooo yummy
-
Re: Vegan London, Part Three
 Yowza, sounds intense! Will she part with the recipe that you in turn can part with us? ;)
-
Re: Vegan London, Part Three
PM me if you want the recipe! :p
-
Re: Vegan London, Part Three
Well, I am totally hopeless when it comes to most things - especially balking. But perhaps I can use it as some sort of vegan trading card. :tongue_ani:
-
Re: Vegan London, Part Three
Damn, can't make it either. Hope they do it again. Please let us know how it goes, Gwydion. Thanks for the heads-up.
-
Re: Vegan London, Part Three
Right, we definitely need to organise something else then. Harpy, would love to meet you one of these days!
-
Re: Vegan London, Part Three
Yes, that would be great, Rainbow. Am not very good at getting to things on the spur of the moment but if we fix it up a week or two ahead I could.
-
Re: Vegan London, Part Three
^ Hope you both had fun at your respective do's :)
Vegan drinks was excellent! Great turnout, really inspiring to see that amount of happy, smiling, sociable vegans all in one place together - chewing the (veggie) fat. Congrats to the organiser/s.
Now one for the singletons:
At last, the Vegetarian and Vegan Speed-dating Session is here! Tibits playing host once again, which should work perfectly as the setting.
Tuesday 1st November @ 6PM - all further details and where to RSVP can be found here:
Manly Males: http://www.meetup.com/vegetarian-419/events/36157222/
Lovely Ladies: http://www.meetup.com/vegetarian-419/events/36156732/
Should be another good turnout :)

London Vegan Drinks happening again - Oct 20th
http://fatgayvegan.com/london-vegan-drinks/
Looks like it is going to be a monthly occurrence. Hope so, last one was a blast!
-
Re: Vegan London, Part Three
Ooh, splendid. I am not (at all) single so will have to give the speed dating a miss, fun as it sounds (where were these things 13 years ago, hmm?). But vegan drinks sounds great! Only proviso is that a family member with a health scare will (hopefully) get their test results that day - if it's bad news then I am needed elsewhere. So now an extra reason to hope for good news!
-
Re: Vegan London, Part Three
Tsk tsk Rainbow - don't seem to recall bumping into you tonight? ;)
Jokes aside, hope it wasn't bad news family wise!
-
Re: Vegan London, Part Three
Oh god! I'm so sorry! I completely forgot! :o Too many other things on my mind (though thankfully news wasn't too bad) and was working late in the office. Oops. Tell you what though. I'm thinking of going to the pot luck on 2 November and bringing some of my cakes! :D Any takers? (Any requests?)
-
Re: Vegan London, Part Three
I didn't forget but I've been in a nose-to-grindstone situation, sigh. ETA was it good, Gwydion?

Sure. If you can make a cake for us, I'll see you there ;-p
Glad to hear the skip wasn't due to family issues!
Harpsickle, would have been great to see you! Perhaps the next one or sometime soon? You still need to teach me how to be all proper like at the Opera.
Yes, was another good'n :)
-
Re: Vegan London, Part Three
All you need to do to enjoy the opera is turn up to one, Gwydikins!
Seriously, anything goes these days. There was even a couple eating their dinner next to me in the concluding minutes of The Passenger (a tragedy about people in a concentration camp). Mind you I thought they might get attacked by other members of the audience.
-
Re: Vegan London, Part Three
:surprised_ani:
Cool, I may bring along a big box of cinema type popcorn then. Flick it at people when I can't eat anymore :p
-
Re: Vegan London, Part Three
It's not encouraged, but you might get away with it as long as you don't take any photographs in the auditorium, which seems to be the last taboo.
-
Re: Vegan London, Part Three
^ Haha, yes - experienced just that! No go, even when the orchestra are just setting up.
Anyway....
Not to be forgetting Animal Aid's annual X-Mas fayre.
December 4th, usual venue.
Slinky Linky
See you there?
-
Re: Vegan London, Part Three
^ I'll be there - never miss it. A few of my favourites couldn't come last year due to snow, so all the more reason to be there this time! As usual, I'll be in and out relatively early (have to work in the afternoon, booooooo). Anyone planning to be around before noon, let me know!
-
Re: Vegan London, Part Three
Hope this isn't out of place as I'm the organiser, cook and bottle washer of this meal.
There will be a one-off Underground Supper Club event in Ealing on the 3rd December. The Stripey Cat Supper Club still has 7 places available at a contribution per head of £22.50 (or you can book with credit card via Wegottickets, booking charge applies).
Hope some of you will be tempted to come along.

No, not nudes, but street photography, catching people when they're not posing.

Re: Vegan London, Part Three
That sucks!
I have never particularly wanted to go to Mildred's, as "trendy", "overcrowded" and "rude service" are all things that put me off a restaurant. But I was willing to give Mrs. Marengo's a try, and just hadn't got around to it yet. Too late! :(
-
Re: Vegan London, Part Three
Poo about Mrs Marengo's :(
I recently got my Bachelors in Bumpage:

Bachelors in Bumpage - love it!
When are you getting there Gwydion? Would be nice to say hello if you arrive before I leave. (If time permits, I might even be willing to bake you something. Ditto any other forumers who are willing to get there before noon!)
