And the onion rings!
Ooh and the bean and walnut salad!

I've never seen the onion rings at Tibits but they usually have the wedges. The bean & walnut salad is really tasty, probably my favourite dish there.

SAF RESTAURANT AND BAR AT WHOLE FOODS MARKET® KENSINGTON TO BE OPEN AT THE END OF MARCH
Whole Foods Market and Saf Restaurant and Bar are coming together to bring Saf's signature plant based dining experience to Whole Foods Market's Kensington store from Spring 2010. The new restaurant and signature cocktail bar will be a major feature of the first floor's 'Market Restaurant' and it will give diners the opportunity to have an intimate dining experience amongst the buzzy store atmosphere.
Glad you enjoyed Zilli Green BlackCats. Did you book? Was it busy? - it felt to me like it would be a bit claustrophobic when full! If you were too full for dessert my suspicions have been confirmed: I'm a greedy pig! I had the same main as you and thought it was yummy too. Did you get offered cheese on top though? Did you feel confident that the waiter understood what vegan was? [sorry, 20 questions!!]
VeganMonkey - I did book about a week before and I got a call on the day to check I still wanted it. It was very busy in there and I did feel a little cramped at times. A member of staff said that it is more quiet at lunchtimes and busy in the evenings. I'm sure I am more greedy than you.:D I sometimes fill up on a few starters and then can't fit in any dessert! The waiter didn't offer me any cheese on top of my pasta.
That's good that you weren't offered cheese.. What with the creamy looking sauce and being asked if I wanted cheese I wasn't too confident my meal was really vegan which spoilt the enjoyment a bit.
I must admit, I thought most of the starters and side dishes sounded more interesting than the mains and the roast potatoes and spinach were lovely so I might order a load of sides instead of a main next time!
I made my second visit to Mrs Marengo's today. I had the mushroom and ale pie with mushy peas and fries. It was fab:)
Vegan cake fest? Don't mind if I do:

Might bake something if my oven is working by then.
I tried out Loving Hut recently--really liked the burger, and I'm usually not a huge fan of faux meat!
I stopped by The Gate last night on my way back from a movie at the Riverside Cinema. I couldn't resist trying out The Gate. Had already had dinner, but my friend and I split the apple crumble. It was really nice (though kind of pricey for the size), and the service was really fast (probably because we went just before closing and there was only other group there). My omni friend was impressed. I definitely want to go back sometime to try their mains, though I think I'll have to wait for a special occasion... The decor is really nice, too. Hope you enjoy it!
Ooh, this looks really great! Think I'll go. Can't decide what to bake...
I'll probably go to Tibits this evening. I still haven't tried the onion rings so hopefully they'll have them on.
Evening, all.
I've just created a "vegan london"-centric blog here.
The intro post will give you an idea what will be coming along on there.
The onion rings are good. :)
As promised, my first proper blog post:
http://j.mp/ccRrNG
And there will be many more to come.
Very interesting. I can't get my head around Vintage Roots wine at Costcutter though - I wonder if other branches sell them.
I was a bit agape when I spotted them!
I thought "I've seen that label somewhere before...". Had a shufty at the back label and there it was! they had a couple of reds and a couple of whites in stock.
Glad to be of service, Troutina. There will be more of that when I get time (at the weekend, no doubt). In the meantime:
New blog post: Vx, the new home of Secret Society of Vegans; Kings Cross, N1. http://j.mp/d9LIuE
I'm thinking of trying The Hornbeam Café in Walthamstow next week.
I also have to go to the Borough area of London for the next couple of months and there is a veg-friendly stall and a cafe at Borough market but only on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays so I'm going to try them.
For starters i suggest you go for the mezze platter, includes a sampler of all starters so you don't miss on any of them. When it comes to main courses, i had the the Aubergine Schnitzel last night and it was just delicious!! My friend had the Risotto Cake and was lovely but i think i made the best choice!
In case you didn't know, I now work as an apprentice chef at The 5 Elements vegetarian takeaway (formerly Futures) in The City. I have set up a twitter account for the business and you can feel free to tweet me there.
Any questions, suggestions or feedback, please direct them to me there.
Additionally, the takeaway will officially relaunched very soon (with a range of vegan desserts made by my fair hand), so I'll keep you posted.
Cheers!
oh, and Blackcats - it's a 10 minute walk from Borough :) (8 Botolph Alley, Open Mon-Fri 12-2pm)
^ Thanks Bryzee, well done on the job. I will have to try it.:)
That's exciting, Bryzee - well done. Are you specialising in desserts then? I bet you will attract a large following from this forum if so :D
I used to travel to Kensington, London for the Vegan events but have been told that at least one of them is no longer on, I think the Christmas Without Cruelty is still on, but not sure. Is this true? and does anyone know if there will be any alternatives in London this year?
Thanks
IIRC the Christmas one is still on but the Vegan Fair is having a year off. There are alternatives, I'm sure, especially if you'll go somewhere other than London.
I'll be preparin and cooking everything really - learning and all. But the chef there is not a baker, so I will solely be doing the desserts (cookies, cakes, tortes etc on a daily rotation).
I'll post the website address soon - it is being designed at the moment. Until then, twitter is the go-to.
That sounds amazing! Well done!
No Vegan Fayre? Boo!
Oh no, I haven't been able to go for the last two years either. Hopefully I'll have my life in order for the 2011 show.
^ There's always Bristol and West Midlands to go to.
Hopefully, you might make one of those
Hello again dudes and dudettes!
An officialish post regarding The 5 Elements Vegetarian takeaway (formerly Futures):
We are now properly relaunched, with the new signage having gone up and the menu having been redeveloped. There is now a daily vegan dessert prepared by yours truly, along with fresh soups, salads and mains.
The website is still being designed, so in the meantime the points of call are our Twitter and Facebook pages.
Additionally, We are now listed on happycow, and will soon be on VeggiePlaces and Vegan London. So, if you have visited our reborn takeaway, please review when you get a chance.
Many thanks!
[/end officialness]
Nice one!
Don't suppose you are open weekends? Really want to give it a try...
Aye, thought so :( Ok, thanks. Will maybe have a random day off at some point. Goodluck!
Hope so! If you do come in, ask for me and I'll come up and say hi.

Thanks Frank. Amico Bio sounds intestering - hoping that the seitan it serves is comparable with that in New York! Not sure about the strawberries with balsamic for dessert (had that before and not a fan) but at least they're trying. Will definately check it out.
Pilpel is right by where I work - don't know why I haven't been in there yet. Have you been? In theory everything should be suitable but I'd be a bit worried they might sneak something into the falafel or hommous...
