Dressings in a raw food diet
Im wondering if anyone could please share their thoughts / experiences / ideas / information on dressings in a raw food diet: eg soy sauce , salt , vinegar, oils, miso, chilli sauce, nut butters etc
I'm wondering do most raw vegans use these dressings or not? what are the pro's and cons? please :) thanks
Re: Dressings in a raw food diet
The less of the extra stuff, the better in my opinion. However there's nothing wrong with using a little shoyu (soy sauce), vinegar (especially apple cider) or oil if you really want to! The pros of using such ingredients is taste and the cons can add up actually: bloating, high sodium levels, lots of fat, etc. Personally the less I use of these things the better results I get in terms of energy, skin tone, and weight management.
Here are some simple ones we like to use around here:
1/2 avocado
1 Tbsp organic dijon mustard (not raw) OR ground mustard seeds
1 clove garlic, minced
fresh basil if possible, diced
juice of 1 lemon or 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
Stir it all up until well combined and toss it with your salad! :)
---
1 tbsp tahini
1 clove garlic
juice of half a lemon
water for consistency
Again, just mix thoroughly and enjoy!
----
3 fresh medium tomatoes
1 mango
handful fresh herb
2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
Blend to get the right consistency here and that's all there is to that.
----
Simplest yet:
Juice of 1 orange
Juice of 1 lemon or lime
1 Tsp cumin
squeeze the juices on your salad and sprinkle the cumin, then toss.
~~~~
Shoyu is great in a tahini sauce, which can also be used as a "pad thai" sauce for zucchini or kelp noodles.
Hope this helps give you some ideas!
Re: Dressings in a raw food diet
I like to use my Vitamix to make my own salad dressing without vinegar and oil (which are not supposed to be that healthy to your body according to some sources).
So I have tried to blend raspberries, lemon juice, celery, tomatoes and similar with quite good results.
Best regards,
Andy
pesto is awesome and very simple. just whiz up a bag of pine nuts, lots of fresh basil and a spoon of olive oil. add water to loosen texture if required
Re: Dressings in a raw food diet
ranch dressing:
soak some sunflower seeds for an hour, drain, add the juice of a lemon, a teaspoon or two of dill and blend, can be used as a dip or add water for desired consistency for dressing, scrummy.
spicy date chilli dressing:
blend about 15 dates, couple of garlic cloves, inch of ginger, a chilli (or two) add a bit of agave and a splash of water to the desired thickness, good as a dip for spring rolls too if you leave it a bit thicker
Re: Dressings in a raw food diet
My basic dressing would be:
oil
lemon juice
salt
sugar
Then you can add a small amount of ground fried peanuts to turn it into a peanut dressing.
One of my favorite dressings!
1 mango
1/2 red capsicum
1 cup coriander
1/2 lime juice
Blend ingredients to make salad dressing. Add to whatever salad you like! :heart::satisfied:
