I had some coffee flavored Silk soymilk again today. I love that stuff!
I use rice milk..... occasionally Rice Dream, but find that goes powdery after a day or so, but mainly Provamel Rice Drink. Its got a really smooth texture. I try to get the one with added calcium and vitamins.
have any UK people tried Alpro's new(ish) Line S variety? it's supposed to be reduced calorie soya milk and has added vitamins and calcium. i thought it tasted a bit weird, not as nice as their normal one.
I drink Holland & Barrett's sweetened soya milk with apple extracts, i tried the unsweetened one but now that i'm used to this one it tasted bland. I mainly have it with my porridge or tea and for baking. It cost 99p for 1 litre
I didnt like the Tofutti cheese slice had one slice then threw it away, however i loved Tofutti cream cheese that was yummy. I like Alpro Soya chocolate desets.
MultiGrain FTW!

FILTERED WATER, OAT GROATS, TRITCALE, BARLEY, ORGANIC SOYBEANS, BROWN RICE, AMARANTH, TRICALCIUM PHOSPHATE, SEA SALT, RIBOFLAVIN (B2), VITAMIN A PALMITATE, VITAMIN D2.
yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
i dont understand the need for any substitute for instance, vegan chicken slices... surely this is saying that its ok to say u can eat chicken but not literally, therefore eating a subsitute? - haha i just confused myself there.. erm.. for instance there would be uproar if tvp was laballed human thigh, so why should we have the right to put an innocent animal on the packaging of vegan foods.
hmph hope i make sense
there's a whole thread on something like thatQuote:

I asked the byers in health food stores here, and they said there was alotta loss cuz the product didnt have a long shelf life... so, iono. :(
Ohhhh that's a shame.
I use rice milk and love it. Soymilk always had a funny after taste to that the rice milk doesn't have.
I use silk soy for me and my kids. I dont drink very much of it just cook with it. The kids drink tons of soy milk.
Plain soy milk. Not too often, though.
I want to try making my own raw nut milks eventually. Just haven't gotten around to it because I'm lazy. :p
Oooh I was brought up on loads of milk and diary - absolute loads. As an omni teen though I was interested in trying things like soy milk and veggie wild rice burgers and things so maybe I just had unconcious want to eat differently... I have no idea though!! :)
Anyway, I love soy milk now - just recently managed to drink it on it's own (slowly, though), but otherwise I have it in soylattes at coffee shops, in milkshakes (I have a lovely carob shake as a desert sometimes), I don't eat cereal very often but would have it on that. I did try cereal with water once and it just tasted like cardboard in water...!
I do want to try other milks though, because I feel it's important to have variety in my diet and not eat the same stuff all the time. I have almond and I think oat milks in my fridge waiting their turn. Haven't really tried different soys but tend to have Alpro sweetened. I've also bought those little cartons of rice dream to have in tea at work - couldn't really taste it though, but it changed the colour and made it a bit milder, which was nice for a change from black tea. I also tried something else that was in a small box - it might have been almond, it was a bit strange though, from memory. I think sometimes those ones can taste watery - I like a nice thick texture.
I drink soymilk, but only the pure unsweetened variety without all the additives of most brands. My favorite brand is Trader Joe's organic unsweetened. It's just soybeans and water. Yummy! :)
I'm considering investing in a soymilk maker. However, some earlier posts in this thread said that homemade soymilk is bitter unless sweetened. I don't find unsweetened soymilk from the store to be bitter at all. Is homemade soymilk really that much more bitter than the store bought variety?
I've also made cashew milk. You just blend cashews and water in a blender and then strain. It's pretty good and the color is right.
There's a cafe in San Francisco that sells peanut milk. They claim it has miraculous healing powers. I don't know about that, but it tastes pretty good.
Bonsoy! Yum!
I've always wanted to try this, maybe I'll pick it up next time I need to go to the store.Quote:

Also wanted to try Silk's unsweetened soymilk, just afraid I would waste a whole carton.
if you don't like it, Limey, you could just use the remainder of the carton for smoothies, baking or something where you wouldn't really taste it
Yeah like the somewhat scary Mac and Chreese I had earlier today. ;)
I pretty much only use soymilk for straight drinking and in my cereal, but thanks for pointing that out. I could go ahead and start making myself smoothies. :D
I know many of you don't feel there should be a need to Replace milk, but after sooo many years of having cereal and milk shakes it would be hard to just not replace it! I've aalllways had cereal in the morning, have found out I'm allergic to wheat so toast is no go area at the mo, and I've heard conflicting things about eating fruit first thing in the morning.. can anyone shed any light on that? Basically I've heard that fruit on an empty stomach is best, and then I heard it's too acidic after such a long period of no food in there or something....
Lex x :p
Am I the only one here that drinks Vanilla Silk? I hope I didn't overlook an ingredient, if it's not vegan I'm going to have a heart attack
I drink it too :)
I do as well, it's my standard.
Oh, I am all over the Vanilla Silk. Light Vanilla to be exact. Yum! It's my first choice.Quote:

I know for me that fruit in the morning is too early. I can never do oj on an empty stomach - OW! I know a lot of people who can. I suppose it's whatever works for you.Quote:

What's Vanilla Silk?! Do the people that drink it live outside the UK or am I missing something fantastic here?! x
"Vanilla Silk" sounds like a very trite sexual metaphor.
But I'm sure it's delicious!
Silk is a brand of soymilk, so Vanilla Silk is their vanilla flavor. They even have one called Very Vanilla, which I think is geared towards kids because it's too sweet.Quote:

I thought I was the only one!Quote:

I use vanilla flavored soymilk om my cereal - either Provamel (organic, so i prefer that, if i can get it where i'm at), or Naturli' (which is a danish allergy-friendly company). I usually use Provamel in foods, or if it's on sale, Oatly (organic oatmilk). I'd kind of like to try all of the good stuff - almond milk, hazelnut milk and so on, but it seems way too exepensive, and have been drinking soymilk my entire life (milk allergies..)
for cream i use Provamel's cooking cream, and for whipped cream SoyaToo. -makes a very good chocolate mousse (thanks cherry!):D
Yeah I like trying all the different types of 'milk' out there; like soya, almond, rice, pea, etc. Some milks taste better with different foods. Can someone confirm that Coco Pops are vegan? x
I use Alpro Soya soya milk, the one in the orange carton. I prefer the unsweetened soya milk and I get the one with the added nutrients as they cost the same so i might as well. I use it in tea only and on muesli and cereals. One litre lasts me a week. It is tempting to buy supermarket own brands as they are a lot cheaper but I don't want to support the big supermarket chains. I think oat milk just tastes like water. I sometimes buy the strawberry Alpro Soya mini drinks as a sweet treat.
I love vanilla and chocolate soy milk. Silk and So Good are great brands.
I love the commercials for Silk with the cows. It's so cute. :)
My preference is unsweetened soy milk. I usually buy Trader Joe's brand (the shelf stable kind), b/c it's cheap. Westsoy unsweetened is good too. My favorite mainstream brand is Silk, but it's got sweetener in it (I don't think they make an unsweetened variety). I've tried oat and almond milk and liked them both, too. I only really use it for cereal, cooking and in my coffee (important), but I was never a milk drinker, even before veganism.
I love Soy Delicious and Rice Dream "ice creams" ... with Steaz root beer for a float - major yumminess. And the Uncheese Cookbook has awesome cheese replacement recipies, since I am, after all, a recovering cheese addict;)!
It's amazing, I found out that the O Organics original flavor from Vons is REALLY good and fortified with TONS of vitamins (including vitamin D NOT from lanolin!). It's thick and creamy and ooo! So good!
Sweetened soy milk (plain and chocolate) and almond milk (chocolate but I'm going to try plain soon). SOMETIMES plain or vanilla rice milk but I don't like it as much as soy milk.
I agree that it's not necessary to replace milk, i only eat/drink products that taste nice, which happens to be alot of alpro stuff, especialy there light 'milk' I find others too much like cow juice! That annoys me actualy vegan things that are made to look or taste like a meat/dairy product, I feel the producers some how missed the point!
I do like vegan ice cream though, I could never eat the dairy kind, used to make me quiet ill, a bit naughtiness is good every now and again! :D
Hi, This is my first post so HELLO EVERYONE!!!!!!
just thought I'd ask has anyone else tried the chilled Aldi soya milk? I did a while back just as I was converting to vegan from omni but I'm not sure whether its vegan or not. Its a new product and very nice too - and theyve got a choccie one too. At the moment I'm sticking to alpro - had their cream with strawberries yesterday!!!
I'll add that I actually saw in one of their leaflets for whats coming in this week that they are advertising pates that they say are suitable for vegans. Its nice that they are advertising theyre vegan in thier leaflets.
