OO! I'm a jersey vegan too! exit 137!
I think we should try to have an NJ get together. I live in Asbury Park and date someone in New Brunswick, so any central Jersey location works.
Have any of your tried Down To Earth in Red Bank? It's totally vegan and ~75% organic. Very tasty stuff.
Cheers,

I'm in NJ!!
I'm going to go to Down To Earth for my birthday this winter- I've never been there, and my friend who lives near there told me it is so great.
I also tried out Kaya's Kitchen recently, which is in Belmar. The food is so good.
I very frequentyly go to Vasanta Bhavan, a vegetarian Indian restaurant in Hamilton. They have an inexpensive buffet ($7) and its mostly vegan. I always eat sooo much!
Yes, Down to Earth and Kaya's Kitchen (formerly Veggieworks) rock! I've never had a bad meal at either one.
Can you give me a clearer idea of where Vasanta Bhavan is? It sounds great. I recently tried Udipi, which is in or around New Brunswick (not sure; it's on rte. 27). It's vegetarian South Indian. It was very good and inexpensive.

I think I've been to Udipi (or maybe it was a place with a similar name)
Vasanta Bhavan is on Quakerbridge Road. (the road is sort of near quakerbridge mall- do you know where that is?) If you are on Route 1 you turn onto Quakerbridge Road and keep driving and it's at the 7th light, in a plaza on the right. Here is their website, they must have better directions:

Exit 148 : )
I'd be up for a get together, winter is best for me as I do wedding photography so my weekends are usually shot in the nicer weather months! I keep hearing about Down to Earth, would love to try it. Red Bank is about 45 min for me
Thanks! I'll check them out. Udipi is a small place in a strip mall. It has no atmosphere, but the food is good and cheap.
I'm all for an NJ vegan forum get together at Down to Earth. Perhaps we should plan it for after the holdiays--sometime in January/February? That might help us shake the winter blues.

I went to Down to Earth a couple of years ago when I had a girlfriend who lived down the shore. The food was great. I stuffed myself. I think I remember having nachos and chocolate cake among other things. And it's a pleasant stroll to the water.
Yes, they have great dessert. I've never tried their nachos. My favorite dish (although they have many good ones) is the chick pea socca. It's a layers of pan-fried chick pea patties, white bean pate, and collard greens all covered with a yummy tomato sauce. Sooo good.
And, Red Bank is a nice little town on its own, so you can wander, shop, take in the sights, and finish with a fabulous vegan dinner.
So, when are we all going?

It got awfully quiet here. Come on Jersey people, remind me I'm not the only vegan around. my VERY few veg friends have all fallen back into their meat-eating ways.
-<3- a very lonely vegan in hawthorne.
New Jersey vegan right here :)
well hello there! and thank you for giving me a reason to sign on here for the first time in nearly 2 years.. i forgot all about it!
Hey  I'm from north jersey. It's good to hear I summonsed you back. How is being a vegan in south jersey workin' out for you?
now that I'm back on here, I'm totally hooked.. I suppose I have you to blame. :) I'm not liking "Central Jersey" (as I've been told to refer to it) or being a vegan (now a gluten-free vegan) in "Central Jersey" (I still think its south-ish but I guess that's a north thing. lol). I just don't dig having to commute to do the bulk of my grocery shopping.. Hoping to move back up north asap!
I lived in Hawthorne/Bloomfield until 2 years ago. Toms River is just too.. different (crummy. but I'm trying to be nice. lol) All my best friends and the places I love are up there.. I need to find a roomie so I can come back!
Oh man, if I'm ever in a situation to take on a roomie I'm calling you up!
lol! sounds good to me.. or if you know of a decent cardboard box for me to live in, I'm there. anything to get away from here. :)
I am here Jersey folks! Sorry, I just saw this thread. I don't have much time to cruise the boards. But, my husband and I have been Vegan for a year now. Loving it and all the great produce that Jersey offers. We are in south Jersey, Runnemede. It's exit 3 off the NJ Turnpike.
Northern Jersey, currently in the grimey Belleville area.
I'm back to North Jersey (and this site!), peoples. How's it going??
Welcome back! I'm in PA.
Bergen county gal right here :)
