Sorry to change the chocolate biscuit subject for a minute :p
Has anybody ever tried the Batchelor's Beanfeast products? As far as I know they come in Spag Bog, Chili and Shepherd's Pie varieties. I bought the Spag Bog one today in a feeble attempt to get my 5 year old to eat more vegan products. I'm getting a little weary of dinner time battles lol.

I haven't tried them myself. I observe anyone I know who has kids with the same issues. They won't eat anything the little buggers. My neice stayed over for a week a few weeks ago and she wouldn't eat anything except pasta and soup and chocolate. And she was 13.

Re: Favourite Vegan Food Products - Australia
I hear ya, Antony. I think they just like to see us jumping through hoops at meal times.
We have success with Beanfeast! She's eating it as we speak. So next time I'll just sneak a few more veges into the saucepan ;)

Re: Favourite Vegan Food Products - Australia

The coles store near me has some of that brand in their healthfood section, so I;m sure if you asked they could get some in.:)

I've only got one Leda biscuit left:(

Re: Favourite Vegan Food Products - Australia
Nooooo, Antony, say it ain't so!
A non-veg friend of mine was pitying me for my horrible tim-tamless vegan diet just yesterday.
If only she knew. We have something that's better than tim-tams.
Oh, and for the record, if anyone was thinking of trying the Batchelor Beanfeasts, don't bother. They're nasty. The girls loved it, but it's a well-known fact that children have no tastebuds. :D

That IS sweet of you.
I'm sad because i bought organic bread with milk in it today and didn"t realise until I got home. I didn' eat any, my husband will eat it as he isn't vegan yet.
I bought beautiful organic turkish bread at the same shop last week and it was so yummy I went to get more today, but they didn't have any turkish so i grabbed a corn bread and quickly scanned the ingredients for nasty additives.
How could I miss "MILK"?:( I'll be more careful next time. Doh!

It happens, I've done it before. I come home and look what I got for us to eat. We can't eat this it's got "x" in it. WHAT???? Oh No. and then I chuck it out:(

Re: Favourite Vegan Food Products - Australia
Zoglos used to be one of my favourite vegan food products. Although if one is lucky, one can still find a pack that is from a batch prior to their decision to include egg whites.

Exactly, what are they doing that for, sanitarium have also done it. Zoglo burgers ooooooooh
-
Re: Favourite Vegan Food Products - Australia
I spoke to Sanitarium, asking them about the sudden addition of egg. They claim that there was always egg in their products that are now labelled with "egg"; it's just that previously they weren't legally required to declare it.
All I know regarding Zoglos is that they added egg whites to please their customers. What, people were complaining that without egg whites their products sucked? I've still yet to contact them to confirm this.
Another company I spoke to, that makes mini-chol "imitation cheese", says that the type and amount of dairy in the product is low enough that they can say it is "dairy free".
-
Re: Favourite Vegan Food Products - Australia
I've been caught out by the mini-chol producers before. The people at my local health sold it to me as dairy-free. I wasn't impressed when I found out. Luckily I did an internet search before consuming it.

Re: Favourite Vegan Food Products - Australia
Smiths chips have new packaging and the ingredients list palmolein oil.
What is palmolein oil? Anyone know anything about it? Or where I might find out more? I did a search but only got suppliers of.

Thanks for finding that for me. :)
I also checked out the thread "threat to orang-utans".
Good reason to stop eating chippies. I needed one.

Re: Favourite Vegan Food Products - Australia
Has anybody tried the Blueberry Bliss biscuits made by Freedom Foods? They make very good filling snacks. I have also just discovered that Lindt dark chocolate is vegan which makes me very happy. Both are available at Woolies.

Re: Favourite Vegan Food Products - Australia
I wish everyone would stop talking about chocolate. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh I remember the taste so well ;) . Unfortunatly, I can no longer have it due to migraine, I did indulge last week and paid for it dearly :( .
I have so far given up cigarettes (don't miss em at all, revolting things), alcohol (brings on migraine), fattening food (obvious reasons, plus high cholestorol) and chocolate. Geez life feels bland. At least there are other non food fun things I can indulge in ;) .
My fav vegan food is Massell stock. With it I can liven up a soup or stew, make gravy for my nut roast, put in a stir fry etc. It is magic :) .
Has anyone tried Kingland cheddar? I would like to know if it's any good befor I nag the local healthfood shop into ordering it in for me.

I got some a few weeks ago and tried it just now on a pizza. It was quite good but I don't have much to compare to. It didn't melt and it's sort of mushy, but it tastes fairly nice. I love Kingland :) The other soy cheese I tried tasted like a dog had spewed it up. I say it's worth a try *thumbs up*
Good luck!

Re: Favourite Vegan Food Products - Australia
I found these amazing 'sausage rolls', they're Blue Lotus. You can choose between soy or tempeh and mmm they're just delicious. Kind of fattening though.
I found them when I went to Melbourne for a few days but I'm having great trouble ordering them here in Adelaide. :( hmph

Re: Favourite Vegan Food Products - Australia
Thought I'd give this list a try
CEREAL: Nature's Path Ginger Zing, Norganic Apple & Cinnamon. I'm a porridge fan mostly - rolled oats for me. Put a spoon of the former on top.
BREAD: Don't eat it much - prefer crackers as they keep longer. Fancy bakery bread is best. Soughdough, Pumpkin etc.
PASTA: Asian Delight mushroom noodles (dried), Udon noodles (in fridge section). Orgran has unusual but expensive pastas. San Remo has wholemeal dried spaghetti and spirals.
CANNED BEANS: Italian brands with no added sugar - cheap too!
TOFU: Those yummy marinated squares (forget brand as am off tofu for the moment).
TEMPEH: The round (fatty) burger kind.
SEITAN: Ick!
FLAXSEED OIL: Melrose
CRACKERS/RICE CAKES ETC...: Orgran "rice and garden herb" - hunt them down.
CONVENIENCE FOODS/MEALS-
- BURGERS: Only like the chick-pea kind
- BAKED BEANS: I like Amy's "Refried Black beans"
- SOUP: Prefer to make it myself, otherwise Amy's lentil

Green and Black's espresso, ginger or hazelnut & current - Maya gold if rest are sold.
Sweet William (Tangerine only)
Ritter Sport Hazelnut Choc or Marzipan.
Tropical Source Raspberry or Hazelnut.
Constant Craving 'honey'comb and toffee.

Orgran Cinammon & Sultana
McVities Ginger or Hobnobs Leda Luxury (though one at a time - take getting used to).

- CAKES/BUNS/DOUGHNUTS:
Imported German ginger and/or spicy apple commonly found in supermarkets.
Hedgehog slices/florentines/carrot cake and melting moments from The Original Diet in Parramatta, NSW.
In Melbourne - go to Vegetarian Orgasm and die with delight at cakes. I ate one and took home three.
Gluten Free bakery also has some vegan stuff. Apple slice, fruit slice, neenish tarts (the latter not too crash hot).
- CHIPS/CRISPS: Indian chick-pea kind
- CORN CHIPS: White corn chips - any brand

Re: Favourite Vegan Food Products - Australia
Apparently there is a new dairy free frozen dessert icecream called 'Purely Decadent' by Turtle Mountain. I haven't tried it yet but for stockists you can call ph 03 9899 3633. It is made from organic ingredients. I steer clear of 'So Good' as it's made by those greedy Seventh Day supporters of McDonalds.

Re: Favourite Vegan Food Products - Australia
Yes - that is the soy delicious one - they make great flavours like the cookie avalanche I was talking about before. They have other great flavours like chocolate brownie almond, mocha almond fudge, cherry nirvana and peanut butter zig zag to name a few.
-
Re: Favourite Vegan Food Products - Australia
ummm. I'll have to give them a call and find out where I can get me some.
