Re: The Chocolate Decadence Thread - for genuine chocoholics! (2)
tried the mahalo bar, and it was really good! so far my favorite. the coconut filling feels dense and heavy...from what i remember of almond joy bars, the coconut part was fluffier and lighter. but the mahalo bar is delicious!
Re: The Chocolate Decadence Thread - for genuine chocoholics! (2)
^ i've just tried the Mahalo bar and it's nice. it's similar to the Organica coconut bars we can get here, but it's a quite a bit sweeter because of the rice milk chocolate as opposed to dark chocolate. the almonds are a nice touch too.
the coconut in both these bars is yellow, which makes me wonder what they do to the coconut in Bounty bars to get it so bright white...
Re: The Chocolate Decadence Thread - for genuine chocoholics! (2)
i thought coconut was naturally white...i noticed the yellowness of the coconut in the candy bar and thought that it became yellow from being combined with other ingredients, but i'm not sure...
Re: The Chocolate Decadence Thread - for genuine chocoholics! (2)
fresh coconut does seem to be naturally white, but when they process it into the chocolate bars i suppose it discolours slightly either by exposure to air or combining with chocolate particles perhaps; i just wonder if mainstream coconut chocolate bars add some sort of artifical colour or bleaching agents.

This thread has made me want chocolate! *Drools*
May well go and raid the Christmas stash, (that's currently turning into a mountain) on top of the fridge. Mr. F and I just keep buying more and more and more. I think Christmas dinner may just be chocolate this year :D

This may have to be moved to the safe.
Re: The Chocolate Decadence Thread - for genuine chocoholics! (2)
I've tried it but hated it. It could be that that bar I tried had melted in the shop and reset (it looked a rather odd shape when it came out the pack). I might have to give it another whirl
Re: The Chocolate Decadence Thread - for genuine chocoholics! (2)
Ghirardelli's 72% dark is dark enough for me. I don't think I'd want to go darker than that. But I have always preferred dark chocolate over milk chocolate.
Oh and before I went vegan, I tried the "Milk Bar" when I was visiting friends in Canada once. I remember it didn't even taste like chocolate at all. Not sure how anyone could eat that. But I guess people get used to eating stuff that's available in their area.

Is the milk bar a particular brand of (vegan/non-vegan?) milk chocolate? Milk chocolate normally has more milk in it than chocolate so that would explain why it doesn't taste like chocolate! :)
It's just the difference between Cadbury's Dairy Milk brand Chocolate bar (which doesn't taste like chocolate) and Hershey's Milk Chocolate (which does taste like chocolate). The milk bar I was referring to was Cadbury's.
Re: The Chocolate Decadence Thread - for genuine chocoholics! (2)
Yes I think you're right Tabbycat, it's a question of what you're used to - I think plenty of British people would tell you Cadbury's Dairy Milk tastes like chocolate and Hershey bars don't.
Also continental Europeans don't get British-style chocolate at all and the EU wanted to declassify it as chocolate a while back.http://articles.cnn.com/2003-01-16/w...te?_s=PM:WORLD Personally I think they had a point :)
Re: The Chocolate Decadence Thread - for genuine chocoholics! (2)
Europeans (with the exception of the British - sorry guys) make some divine chocolate. I remember one time getting to sample some very expensive Swiss & Italian chocolates. Both were delicious as I recall. Prior to that, I didn't even know Italy made fine chocolates.

Has anyone tried Lindt 99% dark chocolate? I love it, although it is very strong so I can only eat one or two squares at a time! It's gotten to the stage now where I think of 70% chocolate as almost like milk chocolate! :)
I love that stuff. It tastes like coal but it's so moreish!
Re: The Chocolate Decadence Thread - for genuine chocoholics! (2)
I've just finished my bar of Seed and Bean lavender dark chocolate and it was delicious. I also fell in love with Trader Joe's dark chocolate. Very good American chocolate.
The sanctuary where I volunteer has an Easter fayre on Sunday and they will have someone selling vegan sweets and chocloates, so I will have to load up!
Re: The Chocolate Decadence Thread - for genuine chocoholics! (2)
At the moment Viva are selling Sjaaks Eli's Earth bars for £2.00 each. They are only place in the UK (to my limited knowledge) that stocks Sjaaks chocolate (VeganStore used to but have stopped?), I tried the "Milk" chocolate cream eggs over Easter which were all delicious so hopefully these will be also.
*For some reason the VIVA website is down at the moment  but they did have them on Friday, I ordered one of each.

I just tried Ananda's Vegan Wagon Wheel. They are not a identical version, but are still really good (the texture is quite reminiscent of wagon wheels though). Marshmallow between 2 biscuits with chocolate & jam. Really, how can you go wrong?
