Vegan in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK
I'm taking the ferry from Amsterdam to Newcastle tomorrow (Wednesday & I was wondering if there is anyone out there that give me a few suggestions on vegan-friendly places to eat in Newcastle. I hope someone can help me before I arrive, that would make me very grateful!
Thanks in advance!

Hello, I'm a bit late replying so you've probably already found places! I expect you've seen the various online guides e.g. http://www.happycow.net/europe/engla...tle_upon_tyne/
My lacto-veg other half sometimes goes there on business and is keen on this place http://www.akbars.co.uk/newcastle/akbars-newcastle-menu I would imagine they could do something vegan on request, most Indian places will.

Hope you have a good time!
There are also quite a few chain restaurants that have vegan options here - Pizza Express and Wagamama for example - but I don't know which have branches in Newcastle. There is a longer list on this page: http://www.guidetoveganliving.org.uk...or-vegan-food/
Re: Vegan in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK
I have been stuck in a Newcastle once, twice many times before... find a maps, on & really draw yourself up out of it - like, chin up to the first broadband wifi technoslut café you see (nicht wahr?) & ask every curious, furry thing where the joints are at: vegan cheese bars with fondues & don'ts, animal cruelty free nightclubs wiv strippees, couple fishless sushi holes in a few Old English walls; go krazy - it's your Dutch wife & they *are* sticky, meat +7 dairy free English yups from a sleazy industrial wasteland.

I'm not currently a vegan but i'm slowly working towards it. I have been to the Akbars mentioned above but in Manchester and also http://eastzeast.com and both restaurants are excellent at making vegan meals, i have a few friends that are vegan and I regularly go out with them, they have major issues in most Italian restaurants for some reason, even though it should be much easier, Indian restaurants do seem better equipped for it.

That's good news Sarah. Akbar's sounds jolly nice. Some Italian ones can be ok too - Carluccio's have a vegan list - but I agree it's hit and miss.
